I think with this particular genre, you can probably ignore most mainstream critics. Stick to ones with horror as a specialty.

Cloud Atlas

I walked in knowing nothing about this movie. Three hours later I was dizzy and wanting to see it all again. It falls short of greatness (the post-apocalyptic storyline could use some work), but I love its beauty and its ambition. My favorite movie of 2012 so far.

Wreck-It Ralph
Lots of fun. A sort of video game Toy Story, only without the emotional heft. I loved the early scenes that focused on games of 80's and early 90's. My attention kind of wandered as the characters went into newer types of games, but then my interest in video games pretty much drops off after 1994. Still, it's fun, funny and definitely knows its subject well. I think this will be a big hit.

You didn't find the ending to be quite emotional?

A little, but certainly not in the same league as something like Toy Story. I wasn't in love with the Sugar Rush world or the Sarah Silverman character though.

Btw, you can play the 3 of the movie's games on the website. I'm all about Fix-It Felix Jr. :D

I can't even remember the last time I watched two movies in one night (must be all the crazy weather or something) but it happened this night:

Enter the Dragon- Haven't really seen enough Bruce Lee films, but between this one and The Big Boss, I prefer The Big Boss. Solid movie, either way, just not one of my favorite martial arts films.

Indie Game: The Movie- I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to harsh on an Indie game (or any game) ever again. At one point in the documentary, when Phil Fish was talking about all the hate he got from people online, I was reminded of a lot of some homebrew communities, etc, where people voice very ignorant and/or hateful things without any justification beyond anticipation, and I get really tired of even reading it. So I can imagine that Fish could have a hard time with it when those things are directed at him.
Anyway, the documentary was poignant, and fairly well done, I thought.

The movie succeeds as an indie stoner comedy, but any horror elements are overshadowed by it's campy nature, stoner humor and cheap effects, the latter of which are granted amnesty by virtue of being made by Full Moon Studios. Shut up, it's a real thing.

And on one of the other cheapo sets I have, I even have the sequel, as well as the sequel to one of the other FM movies on the disc (Demonic Toys).
Despite being both a Full Moon fan, and an avid smoker - I thought this flick was dreadful. Believe me, I like my trash, but I found Evil Bong to be entirely void of charm. Rather, it just feels hollow.

Every gag fell flat for me, and the death scenes were mind-numbing. It blows my mind that this is a trilogy already. But if you liked it, then I guess I'm just not the film's intended audience.

FLIGHT

The trailer is basically the entire movie. The landing scene is incredible, granted, but the trailer tells you everything you need to know about this film. Don't expect a lot of John Goodman, which was disappointing because when he was on screen he stole the show. A few great parts in the movie, but too much thumb twiddling throughout.

Well, they did leave out one part of the trailer: does Denzel go to jail or not? (don't answer that)

Okay, I'll admit it. I laughed my ass off during the landing scene. Do you remember the episode of The Fresh Prince where John Witherspoon and Will evacuate a plane? Denzel looks just like Witherspoon in that scene and I couldn't help but laugh out loud.

Sorry to ruin a great scene, but you'll expect Denzel to leave the jet spraying aerosol and saying "no one go in there for, thirty, forty five minutes".
