It's nice simple fun. Climb towers, kill bad guys, get loot, repeat. Nice and short too. I just found it to be a pleasant experience.prfsnl_gmr wrote:Yes.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Am I the only one who enjoyed Children of Mana?
(Just kidding. I picked up that game a few weeks ago, but I haven't tried it yet. What did you like about it?)

Sounds good. After dropping 115 hours into Dragon Quest IX, I am in the mood for short games. About, how long did it take you to get through it?BoneSnapDeez wrote:It's nice simple fun. Probably 15-20, there's a bunch of optional stuff.

I am now finished with Brave Story New Traveler. That was ok, nothing to really write home about. I am now starting on Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. I think this game is going to take me a while to get through.

Such a huge backlog in fighting games this year has had me really lagging behind in Tales of Graces F.. Not I have Borderlands 2 and RE 6 coming up as well.. This sucks!!!

Icewind Dale and The Legend of Grimrock.

Xenosaga I ... long story short, the world doesn't want me to finish this game. Years ago I got to some part later on where I went hours doing tons of stuff in this city saving people, then accidentally got into a boss fight (trust me it happens in this game) and died. Bam, several hours lost! So I never touched it again, until now...
Long story short [part2], this happened again very randomly, at the VERY LAST ENEMY IN THE GAME before the final bosses. The enemy just randomly powered up and one shotted my entire party. Turns out I missed the final save point and lost several hours worth of game time, and it put me back before this one boss that took a freaking hour to beat.
Literally tossed my controller into the air when it happened. Well fuck it! Damn I was pissed. I just watched the rest on youtube.
Xenosaga II on the other hand, I've destroyed. 18 hours in again and I'm at the final dungeon and this game rocks. I don't care what people say, my friend gave me a guide he made of the battle system and it explains everything better than the game itself, lol. Anyone who claims the first game is more fun than II has some crazy nostalgia goggles on or something. This one I will definitely beat this time. I definitely like it a lot more despite what everyone else tries to say.
Might hit up Xenosaga III again afterwards as well since it's been a blast marathoning these games, for the most part. The first turned into a real chore, but II was an upgrade in everyway, as is III... by far the best game in the trilogy.

Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
So I got to the end of Baldur's Gate and realized I'd been playing my spellcasters wrong the entire game. I was foregoing the buff spells in favor of the raw damage/healing spells, under the assumption that the buffs were situational and due to how the magic system in AD&D works I didn't want to waste the slots.
Then about midway through Durlag's Tower I realized that there's very little penalty to resting after every encounter if necessary. At worst you'll have a random encounter with mobs you should be able to take (otherwise you shouldn't be there in the first place).
So now I've just started BG2 and plan to make better use of my casters. I'm also realizing why the kensai/mage is the powergaming dual class; you get the good weapon bonuses and the THAC0/AC benefits of kensai, then toss a bunch of buffs on yourself to be practically invincible. You won't have quite as much HP as a pure fighter (only +2/level at 16 con), but if you're only focusing on a single weapon you have enough proficiency points in the early fighter levels. I think the only thing you miss out on is whirlwind attack later.

Scoping out the rpg options on Xbox's Indie service. I've tried the demo for Doom & Destiny and it seems way better than Cthulu Saves the World or Breath of Death. I might buy it just to appease the DEMOn who keeps telling me to do so
"Quit fucking around and buy the game already. It's an old school rpg with 10+ hours of story, side quests, items to get, cheap humor, and stuff to kill. C'mon already!"

Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
Hurricane Sandy got me out of work today and tomorrow, so I've finally started putting some effort into Xenoblade Chronicles. I like it so far, although the voice acting is really annoying. Reyn has established that every single group of monsters we've encountered were a "bunch of jokers," so I don't know why he has to keep driving the point into the ground.
