I searched to see if there had been any discussion on this game, and all I came up with is that it is highly recommended in most top Genesis game lists. That being said, I stumbled upon it just this weekend (I had heard the name, but never looked into the game really) and I decided to give it a shot via emulation.
First off, this is a super complex game, I had to download the manual just to figure out what a lot of the stuff going on was. Being an open world game, it is a little intimidating honestly, at first its pretty hard too. I got killed like 5 times before I even found my first "Mr. Johnson" to do shadow runs for. I kept at it and got the swing of doing the quick runs for 40-60 credits here and there. Then came my fist "matrix" run, and I have no clue what is going on. I read through the manual again, and thought I might be getting somewhere, but got booted out after a few minutes.
I would like to hear some discussion on the game in general, what do you guys think about the hacking? the combat? How about the difficulty?

Re: Shadowrun
I played the game on my SNES back in my college days. A buddy and I got it from KB Toy Stores on closeout around 1995 and we played the HELL out of the game. I find your posting this so strange, the timing... My friend and I are 6 days apart in age and his bday was last friday. For his bday, I bought him a nice SNES and found a good copy of Shadowrun to send with it. He's been playing it since it arrived Thursday and can't put it down.
Loads of fun. I think I'll break my copy out and see how far I can get.

Re: Shadowrun
Protip: The SNES game is completely different from the Megadrive game. There's also a Sega CD game, but I heard it isn't exactly good.
Also, the original RPG has the most 80s artwork of all time

Re: Shadowrun
I love this game and have played it near to the end a few different times. It can be tough, especially for newcomers.
The matrix runs are almost a necessity to make money and have some plot points later in the game. So you need to get a decker at some point and improve your hacking gear.

Re: Shadowrun
This is what held me up, I took a Matrix run because it paid like 500 credits, but had to hire a Decker to help (for like 250 credits) I went to the nearest terminal to start the hack, and did the search option (I had no clue if I was supposed to hack into any terminal, or go to a specific building). Once I got in I was very confused as to what was going on, but watched a youtube video to get the general idea. After getting through a few "battles" I lost and got booted out, and the game said my chip was fried, and had to get a replacement.Jmustang1968 wrote:I love this game and have played it near to the end a few different times. Re: Shadowrun
Randomly stopped into a local game store that normally isnt worth a damn for finds or prices, but decided to take a quick look. As I pass the genesis games I see a cart only shadowrun for $12! The label is a little rough, but it was an impulse buy based on just playing the game. Either way, I am happy to have the cart.

I would watch a lets play or something to kind of help you with the early game. Once you get the hang of it, it makes a lot more sense.

Re: Shadowrun
I've always been interested in it but I've never picked myself up a copy. Might just play it through emulation.
Older. Not wiser.
Re: Shadowrun
I love the SNES version, though I eventually got stuck and had to stop.
I need to play the Genesis one sometime.

I've dabbled into the SNES version, it looks like an SNES Deus Ex or something. haha, the Genesis game looks pretty cool too, so I'll have to check it out sometime.
