Listening to Kamelot's Silverthorn album. Is it just me or does their new singer sound a LOT like the old one? It's nowhere near as drastic a change as when bands like Iced Earth and Nightwish got new singers.

As much as I have always loved Death metal, I'm starting to lose interest in some of it. Specific bands are still fun, but I see myself moving more towards slightly lighter stuff. Folk metal is becoming a favorite, and I'm moving in on more Epic/Legendary metal, especially that which deals with fantasy/high adventure/pirating/medieval shit. I'm also interested in getting into Doom and Sludge metal, but have little idea where to start.

So much metal, so little time.... suggestions always welcome.

Currently rocking Eluveitie, can't help but love them.

Doom metal is pretty diverse. I recommend starting with the "big three" British bands of the 1990s - Anathema, My Dying Bride, and Paradise Lost.

Alright, thanks.

I have a friend who suggested Mortification, so I'll look at all of these when I get time. Probably not best to research this in public.

Yeeeeeaaaahhhh Mortification is decent enough, but certainly not doom metal.

I think some of the members were in Paramæcium though, which was most certainly a doom band.

If you end up liking Mortification you'd be better off just looking into more old school death metal in general. Mortification is okay, but they're pretty much only notable because they're a christian band who's been around for a good while. There's much better dm bands out there (and much better Christian metal out there, for that matter. Trouble rules!)

I'm just looking for new stuff in general. I'm trying to avoid some of this Death Metal I'm starting to hear which is just trying to stuff as much crap as possible in. Doom seemed like a good place to start with the slower tempo's and heavier sound, so I'm looking there.

I've already been listening to Paramæcium. Been good.

@AppleQueso, my friends are just really big on Christian metal. Every little band they hear they tell me about. I know good Christian metal though. I'm just not the person to ask about when it comes to Doom/Death from the 90's.

Now, Turisas. Listening to them a lot. Folk Metal is another new favorite.
