I've watched the video game shows on G4 only a couple of times.
All I remember is basically a bunch of industry hype with a couple of "hot" white girls thrown in the mix to make the nerds happy. It was bad.

It sounds like you started watching it after everything got switched over to G4. When X-Play was still on TechTV it was a lot more low-tech and I found it much more enjoyable. I think that was before the network started dressing everyone.

Yeah, Ninja Warrior is the shit. I remember I watched it so much that it got to the point where I knew all of the recurring competitors by name and it was almost like watching an episodic series or an anime once you really got into it. My favorite guy was the gas station manager. Yamamoto Shingo!hashiriya1 wrote:Hey come on now, Ninja Warrior and American Ninja Warrior are fun to watch.

Ah well. It won't be the last we see of Adam Sessler and Kevin Pereira. Doesn't mean that I'll be watching that particular endeavor, though.

One thing I don't get about video game TV shows is why they treat their audience as clueless idiots. They should assume people have at least some idea about what they're talking about, no?
When I'm watching MMA, the commentators don't go, "Well, now the guy was thrown on the mat, that's a wrestling technique called takedown. The opponent is trying to defend bringing the other person's body close to his, thus denying him the space to perform punches and elbow strikes, and locking his legs, which is a jiu-jitsu move called leglock."
I mean, they do explain what's going on, but they don't assume we are retarded.
Now, if we are watching some video game show and a new Mario game is out, I don't think it's very implausible that they will go, "Super Mario Bros. 37 is a platforming game in which you collect coins and defeats enemies by jumping on their heads. You acquire power-ups by collecting mushrooms and other trinkets throughout the stages."

I remember way back when I used to watch G4 all the time at my grandma's house when I used to spend weekends there. We had similar cable at home, but she had G4 and we didn't so it used to be a treat to watch it. I remember watching tons of Xplay, Icons, and Cinematech and really enjoying it.
By the time we got G4 at my house it was Cops all the time.
Maybe that's their new network strategy? The COPS Network. All COPS. All the time.

Taken off my TV last year (no joke)

I only got that channel in 2010 when we got digital cable, so I missed the really good stuff they used to have.
Might as well be called C4 now, because not only is the network gonna blow, but also for
Cops, Cheaters, Campus PD, CRAP
Hell, rebrand it Spike2 and nobody would notice the difference.
I enjoyed Ninja Warrior and when they had it, Unbeatable Banzuke. But all that's coming to an end.
Enjoy whatever it turns out to be now!

Right on. The celebrity specials were funny as hell. Seeing famous comedians and actors always failing at the beginning.
