A Regretful Decision :(

Post by Frag Mortuus »

This just popped back in my mind. I think I had tried to block it out, but the "Have You Ever Bought A System For Just One Game" thread reminded me:

When I was like 16 I gave a HUGE box of retro gaming goodies to my aunt for my little cousins to play. In this box was 4 SNES's, 2 Genesi, a Turbo Grafx 16, an NES, and a total of over 100 games and probably 20+ controllers.

When I think of all that stuff, I get sad that I gave it all away. They have since thrown it out. After all, this was about 15 years ago. But, as a kid I didn't think I would play those old systems any more. I had moved on to bigger and better things, the PlayStation.

Man, I wish I made better decisions as a kid.

Oh man I think all of us have stories of getting rid of something and later regretting it. You aren't alone at all.

I traded away 50 ish PS2 games because I thought they were just taking up space and I would never play them again. Now that I'm collecting games, it's just frustrating that I traded them away. Grrr :x

When I was 19 this rich kid moved out my dorm. He didn't feel like packing up everything so he game me his N64 with a bunch of games.

I gave everything to my brother the next day.

Just to be pedantic, as a brand name, the plural of Genesis is probably Genesises, as stupid as it may look. As for SNES, it might be SNESs but I honestly dunno

Until recently, I didn't care about my game's packaging, and threw away cases for most of my Wii, Gamecube, and DS games as a kid, primarily due to concerns of having one games case to carry around instead of several space-filling cases. Now I regret throwing them away, though I have found a few in bins of old stuff.
Even worse, however, was my habit of selling games I had beaten or just gotten done with. Though I will still sell games I don't like or give games to friends, I have now decided that if a game is good, I'll keep it, even if I have nothing to do with it.
Insert clever quote here.

I hope I am not the only one who did a double-take when I saw Wii and DS being played "as a kid".

That's exactly why I stopped trading in games! I'd feel pretty good as I enjoyed whatever I got with the credit but I'd always feel rotten once that "newness" wore off. There were several times when I'd go back and re-buy what I had traded in.

The worst was my original GBA. I didn't want to wait for the SP since Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire were supposed to come out before it, so my mom got me one of the clear purple GBAs for my birthday. About a year later I traded it in towards a blue GBA SP. I remember her walking by and saying "What's that?" When I told her it was my Game Boy Advance she just said "Oh, I guess I never saw it folded closed before." Her not realizing I had traded away her gift killed me, and I still feel guilty about it today!

I was in college and I was stupid enough to trade Actraiser for Actraiser II.

Pops used to give me tons of signed baseballs from major leaguers, but if it wasn't signed "To Luke" I'd play with it like any other baseball. Luckily for me 99% of the signed balls are worthless anyway.

Nope I did that too..

I regret getting rid of everything that I used to have growing up really. I either gave it away or sold it for pennies as nobody really wanted those machines the second something new came out. I used to have a few saturn games that would cost hundreds for me to replace now.
