So there's a big storm bearing down on the Northeast...

I took the generator in for overdue repairs and stocked up on some basics yesterday...anyone else prepping and expecting some serious problems? I'm far enough inland that I will likely avoid the brunt, but this is one large motherfucker so I am sure anyone who is within a day's drive from the Atlantic will get at least some effects.

More importantly: how do you think this will effect the presidential race?

I will lose power for a significant amount of time.

I may (hopefully) also get a day off from work/school.

Not looking forward to this.

I have many containers filled with water, Ziploc bags of water in the freezer, flashlights and candles on hand, and am pretty much expecting bad stuff.

The weather forecast calls for multiple feet of snow here. I remain skeptical. I stocked up on candles and cans of Sterno, but I'm not expecting to use them. We'll see.

Edit: Just because I'm a skeptic, doesn't mean I choose to be ignorant of the subject. NOAA's Hurricane center has lots of information, charts, and maps including wind speed probabilities and storm surge probabilities.

I'll keep an eye on the situation; I just don't expect to see Ragnarok.

I live around a thirty minute drive to NC's East coast. I doubt we'll get more than steady rain.

Yeah, I heard about the snow. You usually don't hear snow and hurricane in the same sentence. Must be this whole 12/21/12 thing.

I'm doing the normal prep work. A stock of flash lights and batteries are always around, storm or no storm. But all of my handhelds are plugged in and charging LOL. My main concern actually is the amount of rain we're suppose to get. I heard it's suppose to rain here for 48 hours. ~8 inches. I'm worrying about trees coming down, over anything else. There's nothing that I can do about it though, just cross my fingers.

Obama created this storm to get reelected. Towns will have to hire massive help to plow snow and cut up downed trees and help with relief, unemployment will drop 5%, and Obama will smell like a rose after a crisis situation.

All this Hurricane Sandy stuff and now reports are coming in that a 7.7 magnitude Quake hit the coast of Canada.

The World, THE WORLD!

In any event I have my portables charging, my iPod Touch and Iphone is on the lowest screen brightness with WiFi shut and a list of Wiki Pages stored for offline use (the app is called Wikipanion+). I have bottled water, batteries and flashlights along with candles, some canned goods along with some granola bars.

Last hurricane they tried to evacuate us but over a hurricane I don't abandon ship. They drove in NYPD vehicles with the megaphone blasting mandatory evacuation messages.

From what I hear PA is getting snow more than rain in some parts, Long Island has some parts in the "Mandatory Evac" zone like Fire Island and other parts. The last New York City buses will run at 9 p.m., while the last train and subway lines will run at 7 p.m.

How far east are you? There is barely a breeze in Greenville.
