hi guys , im thinking of getting a broken Neo Geo CDZ and fixing it...........to my knowledge the Lasers are the most common reason Neo Geo CDZ's are broken.
I found that Gamedoctorhk sells replacement Lasers but ive read on a Youtube video in the comments that they sometimes come DOA. On the Gamedoctorhk website it says that the Lasers are tested before shipping out and 100% working so no complaining.
Does anyone have any comments to this ?
I was going to get a Neo Geo AES but have been turned off it for 2 reasons ..........
1. There are Pirate Carts out there and i dont want to be an owner of them , i found a site for MVS Carts that shows the PCBs of real Carts but i can find a site for AES Carts.
2. Ive read that high serial number of Neo Geo AES Consoles are not as good as the low number ones i dont know why tho. Also ive seen Youtube videos of lukemorse fixing multiple AES's which worries me as i think they are a really problematic Console.
btw does anyone know the Model number to the CDZ Lasers ?...........is it Model: H8147AF i read that while Googling but it could be for the Neo Geo CD not CDZ.

Questions on NEO GEO AES and CDZ
Re: Questions on NEO GEO AES and CDZ
If you buy from Japanese online shops, you are generally safe (although they don't often have the high-end titles, if that is what you are looking for). Other than that, buy from trusted sellers. Get to know who is trusted in the Neo community.s8n wrote:I was going to get a Neo Geo AES but have been turned off it for 2 reasons ..........

2. video/audio quality, I believe, but I don't completely remember either.
Why were you considering an AES anyway? Why not MVS? Why are you considering an CDZ over a CD? The load times are still long on games with very long load times, and still manageable on the games with shorter load times.
Are you just looking to get a few titles and say you own an Neo Geo so you can be happy, or do you want to get hardcore into it (in which case, why the hell are you bothering with a CD unit?)?
1. If you just want a Neo to say you own one, just get a Neo Geo CD unit (don't pay extra for the CDX, just for a marginal decrease in load times), a few common games, and call it a day. Most of the good games are going to cost you $40-50 and more even for the CD games. Get a Japanese unit and save money.
2. If you just want to own a Neo, but have a bit more money to burn, go ahead and get an AES and the couple dozen decent games under $100 on it and call it a day. Get a Japanese unit and save money
3. If you want to own things like the Metal Slugs, Shock Troopers, the later fighters, shoot 'em ups, etc., buy an MVS. Don't bother with the CD or AES.
I assume #1 fits you best based on your post.
I don't know if the CD laser is the same on the CDZ as on the two earlier models. You did know that there are three different models of Neo Geo CD units, right?
