Not counting hand helds or addons (and the list is missing some consoles, like the Jaguar, Amiga CD32 and Neo Geo)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_be ... e_consoles
Generation
2:2600 30+7800 3.77+Intellivision 3+Odyssey 2 2+Colecovision 2=40.77
3:NES 61.91+SMS 10-13=71.91-74.91
4:MD/GEN 40+SNES 49.10+TG/PC-E 10+3DO 2+=101
5:PS1 102.49+N64 32.9+Sat 9.5=144.89
6:PS2 153.6+Xbox 24+GC 21.74+DC 10.6=199.34
7: Wii 97.18+360 70+PS3 63.9=231.08

But that list doesn't tell how many people bought PS2 for DVDs or PS3 for blurays or 360 for watching movies and so on.
So then the article is just completely false.

This is the same magazine that had an issue with a cover that had nothing but "THE WEB IS DEAD." written in huge letters.

Am I the only one who thinks that pasting a link to a long article/video and just saying "discuss" is a really annoying and bad way to start a thread? Quote the intresting paragraphs and highlight the most important points of the text. Comment the text yourself. Tell us what exactly it is that you want us to discuss about. Do something. If you're not willing to take the effort to present your/some one elses argument in an intresting manner, then it's not likely that other posters are willing to take the effort to read through a wall of text if they've only seen the headlight.

Yep, but what BoneSnap said is true: dedicated gaming consoles are sadly dead by now.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

I think it's better to let everyone read the article on their own. No need for highlighting if you read everything and you probably should.
Comment the text yourself. Tell us what exactly it is that you want us to discuss about. Do something.
I often avoid doing that so as not canalize the debate around me. I think it's appropiate here.

LOL, consoles dead. That's a good one. That's about as likely to happen as PC gaming dying.

Okay, forced myself to read the article. It's complete and utter bullshit.

I can prove that by pointing out only one quote from it:

"for many gamers, Angry Birds is becoming more attractive than Mario."

Consoles aren't going to die. They are going to look more like PCs, but they will be PCs with a different emphasis: they will be designed for doing things from your couch. I know about Steam's "big picture" mode and I think it's a clever idea, but I don't think it will compete with an entire machine where all of its GUIs are dedicated to being controller from your couch. People are using their consoles for watching Netflix and Hulu now more than playing games, in many cases. I think customers want a flexible product. But they want their PC in the office, and their console in the living room. The next console to succeed will have an easy way to use a pointing device and input text that doesn't require a desk.
