All you really need to know about the remake is that Liev Schreiber is no Gregory Peck and John Moore is no Richard Donner. I give it some kudos for trying to pay homage to the original, but it somehow shed almost everything that made the 1976 film such a brooding, moody, menacing classic.
The remake's worth watching for Mia Farrow. She is awesome  .
She wasn't, really. I just saw Rosemary's Baby for the first time earlier this month, so I now know what she is capable of in terms of acting. She was completely wasted in The Omen remake.

I loved the first SH movie (Even though I'm aware of it's flaws) so I came with high expectations for this one and you know what? It's pretty decent. It does have some weird plot holes here and there but in the end I was so enthralled with the top notch atmosphere that I almost forgot about them. It's not that well acted but the minor role by Malcom McDowell and the actress playing Heather are pretty good.

It's also worth mentioning: WATCH IT IN 3D. It's one of the best looking 3D films I've ever seen (I'd say it's on my Top 5 3D films ever and I've seen a lot).
I checked this out too. Twice actually. :D

Not nearly as well-executed as the original in any way, but it was fun for what it was.

Hopefully, this won't be the last we see of Silent Hill as a film franchise.

Nice to hear that the new SH movie more or less on par with the first at least.

For the record - I'd give the original a solid 10, and this one only about 7/10.

The dialogue and pacing are clunky, the characters are underdeveloped, there's some rough CGI moments, and Christophe Gans wasn't the director, so his French sensibilities are completely absent from this flick.

Revelation is more popcorn friendly, and a bit sillier than the original. It feels much more action than story-driven overall. Initially, I wasn't really sure what to think of it, but was able to appreciate the film more the second time around. It has that fun horror sequel vibe to it, and that 3D ash just looks so cool!

Wasn't super crazy about the original, but it had its good parts so i was happy for that. Really, I'm just glad to hear this movie isn't like, abysmal or terrible or anything like that.

Shameless plug

And I think I already have it around here somewhere. I know I have the other soundtrack. I bought it solely for the closing credit song (the other songs were just a bonus). I really need to organize my cds

Just saw Bram Stoker's Dracula for the first time. What a beautiful mess. I'm hard pressed to think of another horror film with so many amazing scenes (everything with Hopkins and with Waits was OMG awesome) that also suffers from such storytelling problems. Still, it looks fantastic and In the final balance I quite liked it. Most of the England-based scenes are excellent and the acting is generally sharp, but there seems to be too many ideas, too many editing problems, and likely too many egos at work. I'm not shocked this was FFC's first post Godfather 3 film...
