I have a lot of nostalgia for the original Legend of Zelda. I used to play with my cousin, Jimmy. We would take turns with the controller 'till one of us died. I remember it became a running joke to spin around like Link does when he dies.

After recently replaying the original Legend of Zelda, I feel this game desperately needs an update along the lines of Metroid: Zero Mission.
  • -Graphic Improvement (but still 2D)
  • -Short Cut scenes (emphasis on short)
  • -An in-game map

+1. I'd LOVE to see this happen as well.

I had mentioned this before here at Racketboy, and I was pointed to BS Zelda. Download that ROM for SNES and it will satisfy that itch. Apparantly it was released in Japan only through the SNES Satellaview back in the day. However I'd love to see a proper physical or console network release of a remake in the U.S.

Surprised nobody's tried hacking BS Zelda into a straight up Zelda 1 remake.

Aren't there unofficial DOS and Windows versions of Legend of Zelda?

I'm pretty sure they're just direct ports though.

To this day I'll go back and play it once a year or so -- I have *EVERYTHING* that can be picked up on the overworld map (including the bracelet, the blue ring, all the heart containers, etc) before hitting the first dungeon, from memory.
I used to do that as well. I had the blue ring and white sword before even stepping foot into the first dungeon.

I've never understood people who talk about playing games like they did back in the day. It's not like you didn't have Nintendo Power or strategy guides back in the day. If you really want to simulate the old days, throw money into a river, wait a few months for your "issue", then look up a strategy guide for this and oher games released at the same time.
Insert clever quote here.

That's kinda what I was saying, yeah.
It pretty much is.
Won't argue against this. Very similar plot points in both.

I'll take LTTP over the world, but yeah OoT is still probably in my top 5.

I love how it's such a love/hate thing over the internet. (wait, what isn't...)

I thought I posted more in this thread, but for me in terms of quality I think the 3D Zelda's blow the newer handheld ones out of the water. I beat Minish Cap but can't remember a single thing about it other than shrinking or something, it was extremely forgettable. Phantom Hourglass was the first Zelda I've played in my life that I didn't feel compelled to beat, was like a kick to my nuts. I never tried Spirit Tracks since it looked so similar.

I have my favorites and nitpicks with the 3D ones, but I've loved every single one of them since OoT. I'll still buy systems for those bad boys, and they always give me that nostalgic rush making me feel like a kid again. I enter a dungeon and don't put the controller down until it's finished. I get OCD and do everything I can in the games and never lose my patience like I do other modern stuff, so I never look anything up, no guides, nothing, the whole world turns off around me when I play them. I can't say that for very many other long lasting series' out there nowadays. The 3D Zelda's continues to be something I can relax and take in for an amazing experience.

I'll admit I'm feeling a bit weird about OoT 3DS. Still haven't played it actually and I'm honestly not sure... if I want too? Remake burnout? I dunno, I still go back to the original and have no issues with it. That said if they end up remaking Majora's Mask as well along with another original Zelda for the 3DS (which I'll assume will be more in vein with the console styled ones), then yeah I'm buying a 3DS then.

14, FYI.
I tried playing this game, but I just kinda lost interest after the first dungeon. I still have like, ten Zelda games I have yet to finish.
