Evil Dead remake trailer *NSFW*

Post by jay_red »

Anyone else heard about this remake of the Evil Dead? I guess Bruce Campbell is producing it, and Sam Raimi has given it his blessing so to speak. The trailer just came out and I must say, it is gruesome as Hell! I wanted to show my wife, but I literally dont think she could handle it.

Thoughts? Should they not mess with a cult classic? Do you think they will do the original justice without good ol' Ash?

Edit: Trailer is NSFW!

Been unhappy reading about it's existence and progress on other sites for a while. Saw the trailer earlier this evening. It didn't change my mind that this is a stupid pointless remake that appears to bring nothing new to the table, yet has completely lost the campy fun of the original. And yes I know that the first movie had less camp than the later two.

So my opinion is blllllleeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhh. :?

@Hobie, I think you're thinking of this wrong. I don't even see it as a remake at all. I mean producers Raimi and Campbell have pretty much said the only thing it has in common with the original is the cabin. I feel like remakes are what studios see as successful now, so they said "ok, call it The Evil Dead." But really we're getting Evil Dead 4.

It's new kids coming to the ol' cabin. There's no Ash. Just the evil within the woods.

Sounds like a sequel to me. New characters, new plot.

I'm excited. Also the trailer makes it look like we're getting actual special effects instead of CGI. Thumbs up.

Can't we leave movie topics in the movie thread?

Anyways, Noise is on the right track, you other guys have been misinformed. This isn't a remake, this is taking a concept and doing something radically different with it. I've been following this movie for over a year, and it has been a chore to keep up with. It took a lot to get the thumbs up from Sam & Bruce, and production has been rocky from the start.

Not saying this will be a great movie, but I will say I'm anxiously anticipating an early screening. I use the word anxious because I haven't read the script written by Cody. Noise really liked Jennifer's Body, I didn't, but not just for the writing. But EVIL DEAD is a different animal all together. Cody could be brilliant given the source material she had to work with. Plus EVIL DEAD is running hot off the heels of the exceptional CABIN IN THE WOODS so Raimi okaying EVIL DEAD says a lot.

For now we'll have to wait, but I'm excited for this movie. In spades.

If they don't want people thinking this is an Evil Dead remake... why call it Evil Dead?

Because EVIL DEAD: NOT A REMAKE sounds silly.

I guess they can't exactly call it CABIN IN THE WOODS either :P

I haven't watched the trailer yet. I guess I've kinda been sitting in the "I want Ash in Evil Dead 4 instead" camp for a while, but who knows, it might be pretty good.

I'm hardly a horror movie fanatic though.

because like I said, studios like remakes. The see money from remakes. They're less likely to greenlight something called The Evil Dead 4.

I'm game, I love the original but it's hardly an "untouchable classic." I mean, most folks prefer Evil Dead 2 and that was pretty remake-y.
The gore effects look great in this new one and I'll expect it to be pretty decent!

Having Diablo Cody connected to the movie makes me extra-interested. I love the movies she's written, even if Juno developed the reputation for being overrated hispster-trash. Jennifer's Body was a perfect antithesis to Juno and Young Adult was an amazing cap to what I guess is kind of a trilogy of movies relating to teen girls? (One where they're good, one where they're bad, one where someone can't escape the mentality.)
I just hope that Evil Dead something she actually cares about rather than a project the studio pushed her into.
