As a collector I don't like it either but my point was that the games are still there, and in a generation or so it's likely those FPS games aren't going to have physical releases either.

It is kind of ironic that downloadable games benefits the retro-gaming community so much, but it's also the community that hates downloadable games the most due to being raised on physical media.

I agree it's not ideal but it's cheap and thus it's allowing these kinds of games to continue to be made so it's hard for me to be against it completely.

There was some one here who told me about people programing for older machines see how far can they push them. I wonder if any of those people tried to push the limits of of a Sega CD or 32X to see how far can it go?
I saw Atari 2600 and Amiga . IIRC the Atari was damn impressive!

as for physical games vs digital. I rather have physical, but digital is so much more convenient (and cheaper?) . One unexpected issue with digital copies is that I bought Torch Light , and did not download it. I actually forgot that I did, and if I did not remember I might have bought again. So there is another advantage of physical games stored in your room.

This basically happened because digital is all over the place, GOG, Steam, psn , iOS. If you do not check all of them you might just forget like I did.

Well, I wasn't bashing FPSes entirely; I was just agreeing with the gist of AppliCotton's statement. I enjoy 3D rendered graphics too, but my preference is 2D. That's why I enjoy retrogaming. Sure there are plenty of downloadable 2D games, but those aren't the focus on consoles anymore. The DS (and PSP to an extent) kept retrogaming alive for all these years. I just find the thought of me buying a 360 just to download homebrew and independent games strange. I was going to defend Breetai's statement, but it looks like he's already done so.

On the topic of the Sega CD, it seems that there are so many people who seem to remember stuff like Night Trap, Sewer Shark, and INXS, Markey Mark, Kriss Kross video crap... but they don't seem to remember great games like Lunar or Final Fight CD. As with the Saturn, there were so many great Mega CD games in Japan that never were released here. It would be great if somebody would make a compilation montage video to showcase the cool games there were for this system...

Thanks for the link. Somehow I missed that one. However, having footage of Cliffhanger and Corpse Killer isn't what I had in mind. I'd rather focus on the better games, like Final Fight CD instead of Fahrenheit. I'll still give this video a thumbs up for the effort, but it includes way too many kusoge FMV titles that everyone gripes about the most when it comes to the Sega CD. I'll watch the 2nd part to this video when I get back from work this afternoon.

You're welcome and I know what you mean. I wish they'd focused more on the exceptional games too, but this is probably one of the better Sega CD game collected game footage vids I've seen. At the very least it gives you a pretty good idea of the stuff you can avoid :lol:

I would've been shocked if the video didn't have Snatcher and the Lunar games, and I would've been disappointed if it didn't have Time Gal, Popful Mail, Shining Force CD, Keio Flying Squadron, Robo Aleste, and the other shmups!

I haven't skimmed the topic, but in retrospect I wish Sega had adopted an SVP-only approach to support the Megadrive rather than ramping up production for a risky hardware upgrade. Granted, it was cheaper to have housed the extra processors separately in the mushroom thingy but Nintendo managed to do this with the SNES and even the N64 had an optional video memory upgrade that several games benefited from. Fortunately today's consoles pack enough horsepower to last years and years; hardware architects have become smarter in this regard, not to mention the fabrication process itself has become more efficient (recent hardware failures notwithstanding, of course.)
