What happened to Java?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

THIS.

Lately I've been highly recommending people remove java. It has been a hot bed of exploits if you don't keep it completely up to date. Pretty rarely have I even needed it, so after having my computer taken down by an exploit from an sketchy ad on this site, I never put it back on.

Many companies use Java and the JVM for their internal software, as the garbage collector helps with the maintenance of long-running services. It's not a consumer-facing application of Java, but it's another one of its uses.

ok I guess I will delete it, I hardly have seen any java sites lately, unless I am using it without my knowledge.

You probably are. Lots of websites that load lists of stuff when you click buttons use it. A better idea is to keep it up to date and install a script blocker so you'll be able to allow just the bare minimum for websites to work while keeping potentially malicious ad crap from being able to do anything.

Delete it, if you find some site on the net that requires it, reinstall it. Better safe than sorry considering the amount of exploits lately.

Haven't found a site that has needed it since I've removed it.

The latest Java vulnerability has proven incorrigible so far.
