Re: Help with a Sega CD Model 1
Update: So I took my Model 1 apart. I cleaned really good on the lens with isopropyl. I cleaned all the cards really well with an eraser. There is no dust residue or anything else that shouldn't be in there. I checked all of the compacitors none of them were leaking. I got everything back together. I put in Sonic CD. I played 3 levels of the game and got a game over screen. Then it froze and wouldn't load up a continue. I was playing a CDR version. I still think it has something to do with the lens. Does anyone know of any place online that I could ship it it to to be repaired? I've searched the internet and haven't found anywhere that did.

You didn't mention that you were playing CDRs. They reflect less light than a real disc so they are harder to read. Also if they're burned high speed, that means the pits could be less well defined than a slow burn, also making them harder to read. Since you said it played an audio CD ok it might just not be too happy with your burn.

That is very true. However I always burn at a slower speed. Alcohol 120 only goes down to 8x so that's the speed I've burned the games. Most of the burned games will start up and then all of a sudden freeze. The burned games use to work fine until recently. I looked at all the caps and they were all fine. I guess I'm going to have just get another Sega CD. However this time I'm either going to get a model 2 or a CDX.

Do your actual games (not ones you pirated) work on it at all?
Anyway, I'll buy your broken Sega CD for $20.

Some of the actual games will work some of the time. I'm not interested in selling it.

FYI that's dependent on the drive, not the software.badcompany_25 wrote:Alcohol 120 only goes down to 8x so that's the speed I've burned the games.

When you say drive, do you mean my cd burner on the computer?

Yes, he means the disc drive you are copying CDs with.badcompany_25 wrote:When you say drive, do you mean my cd burner on the computer?Hobie-wan wrote:FYI that's dependent on the drive, not the software.badcompany_25 wrote:Alcohol 120 only goes down to 8x so that's the speed I've burned the games.
If I were you, I'd worry more about making sure official discs work before worrying about pirated ones.
