Unfinished Swan

Post by dsheinem »

is anyone else playing this yet? I just played it for about a half an hour and find it quite compelling thus far. I hear the whole game is on the short side (3 hours or so), but that doesn't really bother me given that it was only $15.

I quite like how the game seems (thus far) driven by disorientation. It seems to be taking a fairly novel approach...

....and I finished it.

The story is touching and tender, something far too lacking in video games as a whole. There's no heavy handedness here - the fairy tale-esque story folds out in a natural way and while it might be a bit predictable as to what's going on and who's who in the allegory, it doesn't make the journey any less compelling. The voice actor at the end of the game was a VERY nice surprise. 8)

Each half hour or so introduces a new dominant gameplay mechanic, and it uses these to tell a story in a very engaging and convincing way. The game's highly stylized look is tied directly to the narrative, so it never seems to be simply "art for art's sake."

Oh, and there's also a nice Easter egg to be found ;)

I'm very eager to hear other thoughts...

Great impressions, definitely will be picking this up now - any idea if this game supports Remote Play?

Wait, is this a digital download game? Jesus, how many quality digital titles are coming out this year? I haven't even finished Papo y Yo, Tokyo Jungle or Retro City Rampage yet

Damn you 2012! Stop putting out so many good games!

I pulled this quote from a review site:

"The Unfinished Swan is the second generation-defining downloadable from Sony in eight months."

I'm going to assume that's a reference to Journey. I've said for a very long time that Sony is better than anyone else in the console industry at supporting and pushing out quality artistic games and they are proving my point this year. I eagerly want to play this

I had a go at Eurogamer, and it was quite unique. Too bad I don't have a PS3 to play it on =P
