Because if they didn't then the movie rights would revert to Marvel.
Which is exactly what I want to happen.

Fucking Sony.
Oh yes. With the overall level of quality Marvel films have been reaching lately, it really is unfortunate that Spiderman and X-Men are stuck with Sony.

X-Men I don't mind not being part of the MCU. I doubt there'd be any easy way to introduce the whole mutant thing without it needlessly mucking up everything.

Spider-Man can hold his own franchise, too, but nobody seems to do him justice.

I hated pretty much everything about the last Spider-Man movie.

Except for Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. Meee-ooow.

Honestly, I liked both X-Men: First Class and The Amazing Spider-Man much more than The Avengers. Don't get me wrong, The Avengers is not a bad movie per sé, but it's a kids movie. Whether you like it or not...

So I just got out of Seven Psychopaths. It was a really enjoyable movie, but I have no idea how to begin to describe it. It's funny, it's sad, it's touching, it makes you think. It's very much worth seeing.

...it's Walken at his Walkeniest.

Watched 21 JUMP STREET again. It was better on the first viewing, but I still laughed so objective reached. And no matter how hard I try I can't shake the fact that Tatum is so much like Marky Mark, but likeable. I also can't shake the fact that the explosion gag in the movie is paint by the numbers and dumb, but there are enough "buddy" and "honest" moments that make up for it.

Good movie for a lazy afternoon. Nothing spectacular, more like something you'd find on TBS, but the film does what it is supposed to.

No more a "kids movie" than something like Star Wars. I'll gladly take fun "kiddy" fare over a lot of more heavy handed entertainment any day.

'course I also own a lot of cartoons on DVD.

magicochris: You need to define what a "kids" movie is.

If you want to place a proper tag on Marvel's The Avengers, it would be "General Audience Action Summer Blockbuster".

A kids movie is targeted solely towards kids. Example: Disney's TINKER BELL AND THE LOST TREASURE is a kids movie. Disney's ALADDIN isn't.
