why are there only 3 genres?
why are there only three genres in the genre section of the forum? more importantly, why arent platformers included? also wouldn't mind seeing action/adventure and puzzles. im sure there are others people would be interested in.
but seriously, no platformers? whats up with that?

Well I know why RPGs and SH'mups have their own sections... well I assume why.
Those two genres have huge cult followings. Sh'mup fans are hardcore, and RPG fans LOVE their RPG chatting. Maybe not here as much cause we probably don't have a lot of the hardcore fans, but they are out there.
But there is a consideration when creating a forum. You don't want to bloat it with sub-forums. Some people hitch to their specific sub-forums and never go into any of the others. That and when you have a ton, it makes it difficult to sort through them all.
Go to FlashKit forums, they have 39 sub forums. Some of which only get 1 post a month. These are forums with 600,000+ members, and some of the sections have 40 members viewing at any given moment of the day... I've seen the forums with hundreds of users on at a time. With all these users how could any sub forum be dead for weeks on end!? The Actionscript3.0 sub forum gets probably 100+ new threads a day!
I'll tell you why, the AS3 forum is towards the top, the Math/Physics forums are way towards the bottom... you have to scroll down a lot to get there. No one remembers they exist... so they stick their math question in some other forum!
SegaXtreme did this once, they busted out with a sub-forum for almost everything... it killed traffic. Just way to much to keep track of. Way to hard to moderate. For a little site like this one, it's just a little overboard to go that way.

i see... how long ago was that though. surely the site has grown since then. i know that have the time if i search something on google related to previous gen games your site pops up, so i assume it gets quite a bit of traffic. I am kinda suprised noone posted in it. there have been a lot of platformers over the years, and some very influential ones.racketboy wrote:I actually had a platformers one before, but hadly anybody posted in it.

how about atleast adding a forum called "other genres" like you have for systems. then we could discuss games that werent fighters, shmups, or rpgs. though i enjoy the occasional shooter or fighter, my interest lay primarily with rpgs and platformers. and i dont see how you can have a proper discusiion on retro gaming without talking about platformers.
