yeah I'm not sure the chronology of the pack-ins since I got my SCD at launch, but there was quite a few... the ones I mentioned, the ones you mentioned, there was also a Sega Classics 5-in-1 that differed from the 4-in-1 at launch, Ecco The Dolphin, and hell I even have a pack-in version of Compton's Encyclopedia which was a pack-in for the X'Eye along with a karaoke disc exclusive to the X'Eye.ja_le_co wrote:A full year after the American launch. Re: 32x and what was Sega thinking?
No offence, noise, but you should'a stuck with Sega. Saturn was the second system I ever owned (if you don't count the Game Gear) and I think I got it for some ludicrous price, like $110, with the pack-in 3-pak (Virtua Cop, Daytona USA and Virtua Fighter 2) back in 1997 from Toys R' Us. I was a bit too young to really follow what Sega was doing with all of their hardware cycles, or to really understand all that the Saturn actually had to offer, but I couldn't have been happier with that thing. Especially once I got Nights and Sonic Jam. The Saturn fell out of the public perception so quickly, though, that it hit pretty rock-bottom prices pretty damn fast.noiseredux wrote:haha no I meant "that was me" the guy you described who felt upset that he spent (err, well his parents spent) so much for a Sega CD and then it was abandoned so he ignored the Saturn. What sucks most is that now that I'm getting heavily into the Saturn's library I'm finding that if Sega's strategy had been different, and if the Saturn had launched cheaper, I probably would have been happy to have gone the Saturn route back then rather than gone with Sony's new console.

As much as I don't care for most FMV games either, I don't blame Sega so much as large swaths of the game industry. There were terrible FMV games on PC and other consoles at the time too. Too many industry people thought that the gee whiz ability to kinda-sorta play video snippets on demand was enough to be fun without bothering to add much else besides an occasional button press.

Re: 32x and what was Sega thinking?
Sewer Shark was a pack-in because it showed off what the system could do, not because it was "good." It wasn't the original pack-in title anyway. Believe it or not, Sega used a shoot 'em up and FIVE OTHER GAMES, PLUS other software (encyclopedia, photo discs, etc.), for the pack-in at first. Yes, they included 6 games. Of course, four of them were Genesis titles on CD (Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Revenge of Shinobi and Columns), one was Sol Feace and the other was the first Sherlock Holmes game (which is actually good).Weekend_Warrior wrote:Troll post or not, the Sega CD was a fucking piece of shit. And the fact that people actually thought that Sewer Shark was such a good game that it deserved to be the pack-in title is/was downright laughable.
This is a troll post because you posted it without knowing what you were talking about. Sonic CD literally came out almost TWO YEARS after the Mega CD first game out (and a year after it came out in North America). Like I said, they really did do pretty well with pack-ins at first.I don't know how far it was into the systems shelf life, but Sonic CD really should have been the launch pack-in game.
The DC is the only system to have launched with a Sonic game. Also, Sewer Shark was NOT the original pack-in. You keep saying it, so I'm going to keep saying it in this post. And it still amazes me how Sega fucked this up with the Saturn, too - launching a new Sega system without a great new Sonic game. I mean, "Hello McFly! Sonic was your head mascot and best selling series on the Genesis?" But what did we get instead... ? "Sewer Shark."
The Sega CD launch was actually pretty successful, and so was the Saturn's for the record.Seriously, that's just beyond retarded. Sega deserved to eat shit with the Sega CD, and the 32X. The Saturn was handled a little bit better, even without a great new Sonic game at launch (or ever for that matter). Virtua Fighter was an excellent pack-in game. It's just a shame that Sega didn't spend a little more time designing the Saturn tech so that it was easier to develop for, and slightly more powerful with extra RAM.
Something Sega should have done was released a Genesis/Sega CD combo set. Then, instead of the Sega CD 2, they should have just released something like the CDX at that time with all the pack-ins it included (Sonic CD, Ecco and the 5-in-1 disc). $249 would have been a sweet price for that in late 1993 (instead of being $399 (maybe cheaper in the US) in 1994). Sega probably couldn't have afforded to go that low, though.

I read that Sega completely f-ed up the Saturn launch by surprising everyone with it's immeadiate release after it's announcement, including surprising game developers and retailers, some of which Sega really pissed off.Breetai wrote:The Sega CD launch was actually pretty successful, and so was the Saturn's for the record.

The disc is slipping, you need a new spindle. Yours probably has all three tabs broken off. With regards to the "normal" noise level, I think he's referring to the PSOne (Aka that tiny white revision), because the older style is pretty noisy. Not quite DC level, but close.Flodder450 wrote:BoringSupreez wrote:I don't know if it's the quietest, as the PSone was pretty silent too. My fat ps1 is nearly silent too, quieter than a slim pS2 or gamecube.

I don't see how that's possible. Mind making a short video of a game bootup? And what model # is it?Valkyrie-Favor wrote:My fat ps1 is nearly silent too, quieter than a slim pS2 or gamecube.
