Nice. Which base do you report to? Why Feb and not Oct/Nov reporting date?
The idea of signing up and just leaving is a misconception. He'll be going to Lackland here in San Antonio for basic.
The idea of even just signing up immediately when you decide to is a misconception as well. I decided to join in April, went to MEPS in July, went back again with additional paperwork in September and swore in, got the job today, and I leave in February. So it's a 10-month process for me, half of which I spent just trying to get in.

And yeah, I'll be going to Lackland. Thankfully, due to my February ship date I won't be there in the heat of summer. How's the Texas weather in Feb/March, Flake?

@Boringsupreez: Texas Weather is awesomely random. It will either be 95 degrees or 35 degrees. Your drill instructor will have fun yelling at you to wear whatever they want you to wear!

Still want to hit up the local retro stores when you get your pass?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Man, even Missouri isn't THAT random. 95 in February... that'll be new.

I am always up for that.

Just to give an idea of the randomness... here, in the last week, its rained twice, hit a hundred once, been in the low sixties, and pretty consistently hitting 80 at some point of the day. Literally, we're in October and checking freaking heat indexes.

Smile: Someone just asked what summer is like in Texas.

Frown: I don't have it in me to lie.

Well... shorts would be a GREAT idea for starters...

Summer is just generally hot. 85+ consistently, slightly more mellow at night, but still in the 80s. Rain is occasional, but as of late with the drought, not close to enough.

So, just be prepared for 110 degree weather. Should cover the biggest problem. Randolph is far enough from most of the concrete that it cools a bit quicker.

Finally, I'd like to say one of the best ways to tell a true Texan is check what they are wearing... 110 degrees? Jeans, t-shirt, boots. No air conditioner in the car. Fun stuff.

This is totally just one possible plan for the future, but I've been thinking about getting a business degree of some sort when I got to college and trying to get in to management. So I may be back where I was in a decade, just in a better position.

And I'm not quitting until at least January, so I'm not getting out of the Christmas rush. What really upsets me about that is that I have to work Black Friday, so no deals for me I'm assuming.
The huge crowd rush type things you'll miss out on, but stuff like the big marked down movies and games you'll be able to pick at. Buy on your lunch break, sometimes the sale prices expire by the time you get off in the morning.

I don't think I'd want to be management. Just seems like too much needless stress for not a lot of reward. Plus everybody hates you and you'd get blamed for everything that goes wrong.

It shouldn't get warmer than 75 and most likely stay in 50s, especially in February. In late march it could get up in the 80s...
