This was my TV from 2005 - 2010. Yes, I played PS3 on it.

I still don't have an HDTV. I have 3 old-school T.V.s, though.

Some games on HD systems make text utterly unreadable and kind of unplayable on SDTVs. I remember trying to read kanji with a japanese copy of Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan, and it pretty much looked like white blobs of nothing, symbols with a high stroke count were just an incomprehensible blur. That was the first thing that made me start searching for an HD setup after getting a PS3.

Yep, I've run into this on a few occassions. The original Dead Rising comes to mind immeadiatly. I couldn't read my mission objectives on the pause screen.

That was my main TV from 2005-2007. Trying to play 360 on that thing sucked. I can't believe I did that, it was barely adequate for PS2. Then again, I got a lot more gaming in on that thing than I have on my HDTV. :?

I managed to play through games like Final Fantasy VII, Skies of Arcadia, and Tales of Symphonia 2 on that television. What was I thinking?!

Yeah, that's why I need a new TV, if it wasn't for that I could easily be happy with what I've got now but I just don't think it's going to work out haha. Some things are just literally impossible to read.

I finally broke down and purchased a Turbo Booster for my TG-16. Holy shit what an improvement composite makes over RF! Splatterhouse has never looked and sounded so good.

I feel modern! We finally got wireless internet up and running! Yay! I can play Wii without stringing a cord across the living room and I can be online on my PC at the same time! Which also means Netflix on the T.V.!

Unfortunately, those wireless adapters for the original model XBox 360s are waaaayyyy overpriced when I could just hook a $2 wire into it. I'll stay wired when I need to for the 360.

We're also finally getting a HD TV! Me and the wife decided that's gonna be our Christmas gift to each other this year. So I will be able to see my XBox 360 and Dreamcast games as they were meant to be seen, FINALLY!!!

Do any other systems of mine do HD (see my signature for a listing of them)? Thanks for any help on this.

Outside of modding...

Gamecube can do 480p with the component cable...which has a proprietary chip in it, and was not widely available, making it fairly pricey (and Nintendo removed the digital port it needs on later Gamecubes).

The Wii can do 480p over component, which is readily available and cheap.

PS2 can do progressive scan (usually 480p) over component - not all games support it, and ones that do may have an in-game toggle, or may just require you to hold Triangle and X when you start them up with just a brief footnote in the manual to let you know.
The PS3 still uses the same component cable, so it shouldn't be hard to find a compatible one.

XBox has 480p (at least) support over component. The official solution is the High Definition AV Pack, which is a breakout box that you can connect whatever actual cables you want to (though the included ones were pretty nice), along with optical audio like the Advanced AV Pack (S-Video breakout box) has. Not dirt cheap, but not usually as ridiculously priced as the Gamecube cable.

IMO...
No real reason for a Gamecube cable unless you're really set on playing Gameboy Player stuff in progressive scan. Just use the Wii to play the games.

Fair warning, HD tends to do to the older 3D games what better audio gear does for listening to music. The additional clarity makes flaws all the more apparent too. Fuzzy SD TVs are vaseline on the virtual lense of a lot of games, even from that era (though the XBox does pretty well for itself).
