There's a XCOM thread in the PC forum, but I'd like to hear opinnions about the console versions since I'll have to settle for the Xbox 360 version as my computer sucks. How does strategy gaming work with out a mouse on gamepad?

XCOM: Enemy Unknown (on 360/PS3)
So, the new version of XCOM is out. Any one here tried it yet? Is it anywhere as good as the legendary UFO: Enemy Unknown? Atleast wikipedia has classified the game as " turn-based tactics tactical role-playing strategy video game"
IGN review gave the game minus for streamlined tactics (while also criticizing the learning curve
), but you have to take their reviews with a grain of salt usually.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown (on 360/PS3)
I never played the original, and I wasn't even really aware that this was coming out until about a month ago. But when I heard about it I got excited since I really like turn-based strategy games. I love the Advanced Wars games, and I am always looking for comparable console titles. So I immediately bought XCOM and I must say: IT RULES!!!!!
Personally, I have never understood the "mouse and keyboard is better" argument. I would rather be on my couch than at a desk any day, so I am already pro-controller. But from what I hear, even PC people are digging the controller controls. My opinion is that it plays great.
I give the Xbox 360 version a 9.5/10. The missing .5 is for nit-picky things that are not worth mentioning. Play it!!
Oh, I like the multiplayer too.

All control methods for this game aren't that good. It's worse with a controller, but, it's not exactly the best with a mouse and keyboard either. That said, the game is amazing and totally worth fighting through the somewhat awkward controls for.
More buttons and better precision. Now you should understand.Lazer wrote:

I actually met some of the designers about a year and some odd months ago. They spent most of the time assuring me that it wasn't going to be a regular FPS. I'll pass word on that the reaction from retro gamers is overwhelmingly positive.

you're sure you mean this X-COM? Cuz there's also an FPS X-COM in the works.o.pwuaioc wrote:I actually met some of the designers about a year and some odd months ago. Despite being streamlined for today's market, I'm still unwilling to put up with a turn-based game of any kind. Still, I am glad this got released; more variety is sorely needed.

You're a strange guy. I assume you don't play board games either.Pulsar_t wrote:Despite being streamlined for today's market, I'm still unwilling to put up with a turn-based game of any kind. Still, I am glad this got released; more variety is sorely needed.

Well, they couldn't specify which. I just assumed it was this one since they were discussing it two summers ago.noiseredux wrote:you're sure you mean this X-COM? Word is that FPS is now a third person shooter.
