"Black and White" Dreamcast console Identification

Post by Rynex04 »

I found this cool looking Dreamcast for $35 and I was wondering if anybody knows anything about it i did a bit of research but didn't find much, the top cover is Clear Black and the bottom is white, what was interesting was that the bottom front of my regular DC says "Compatible with windows CE" while this one has "Designed for Windows CE", the console also came with a clear black control with the words "Millennium 2000" on the front. I was wondering if this was rare or if a price range is available, I cant be disappointed since I gone to love how I can see the disc spinning and the power light going through it. \

You can read a bit about the controller here:

I just got one myself, as for the console, it is most likely a shell swap, the controller was released individually without a matching console (see thread above). The fact that they match is a coincidence most likely.

jay_red beat me to the thread.

As for the console, it looks like a custom unit to match the controller. Pretty cool, I've yet to come across any that use a custom case.

If it's an NTSC-U Dreamcast, I can say with almost complete certainty that it's a shell swap. It's most likely a shell swap regardless of the region, though.
Kinda cool that the seller matched it with a Millennium 2000 controller; as long as it wasn't meant to deceive, that is.

It's a Dreamcast that's been replaced with an official transperant shell case. Simple as that

sounds like a good deal for a semi-custom DC! $35 for a "black" NTSC-U DC without the ugly Sega Sports logo seems pretty sweet to me.

i have a dead black DC, i might try the shell-swap sometime. is it reasonably easy to do? anyone have any experience?

Should be as easy as undoing some screws on the bottom and popping the top of the case off, then the rest in reverse.

i figured, just wondered if there were any potential snags anyone has run into. i'd honestly like to have the white lid, black top and white bottom, but i wonder how easy it is to swap the lids...

As long as you pay attention and keep track of where screws go it is easy. Well, having 3 hands for coordinating the lid and spring could make that part a bit easier.
