What PS2 game badly needed a PC port?

Post by Mozgus »

Assuming your choice title would be ported to PC in a professional manner, and not half-assed like Devil May Cry 3, which game deserves it most? This thread might not interest those who own a PS2 still, but for people like me, who's PS2 broke within months, it`s always nice to dream.

My vote goes to Shadow of the Colossus. That game was nearly flawless and easily my favorite on the system. I love games that can tell a beautiful story without using many words. That's hard to pull off. If it just had a PC's power to fuel a 60fps frame rate, and high resolution to see the individual hairs on those huge furry bastards, I'd probably die on the spot.

Like this faked press shot. Ignore the shadow problem with the horse:

Final Fantasy XII. The graphics in that game are crying to be let out of 640x480 confinement.

Gran Turismo series.
Armored Core series.

....but ony if they get online play as part of the port.

I agree with Shadow of the Colossus. And holy jeez, thats one awesome screenshot!

Shadow of Collossus as well... If ported properly to the PC and utilizing its higher resolutions would make that game out right AMAZING! (as it is already in its own right... and thats from someone who has barely even played it yet).

Ps2 cannot do a resolution of 2048x1536. It can only do 640x480, except for a select few games. It's faked because it was taken from a PS2 dev kit, rather than a real PS2. It means that no version of Colossus can look that good (ignoring the visable shadow glitches there).

Well it's not really fake then. It's just running at a higher res than normal. The game still looks that good though. Just not that sharp.

You mean a "higher res than POSSIBLE", which means fake in my book.

Well you said yourself: it's running off PS2 SDKs, so is it impossible? No. Just not by retail units.

Is it fake? No. The game can look that crisp and clean. Hell the game does look THAT good, there's no real difference when it comes to the geometry, the A.I.,e tc. the difference is in the resolution and the detail in the textures being upped as a result of that.

The game is still the same, you just can't see every nook and cranny in the textures.

Every game released on a modern console has its screenshots alterred or taken at a higher-resolution than possible to elevate the quality in the details. I'd consider the photoshop ones, faked. The high-res ones? Well the detail is still there, you're just not playing at the resolution the screenshots were taken.
