Man I must have been really annoyed the night I typed that up!
Don't feel bad, the PSP's an annoying machine.

More like Battlefield 2 unpatched annoying (many issues taking away from the fun).

all this pointless bitching is really pissing me off - let's try and act a little more mature shall we? I've read through this whole mess of a thread trying to work out if there are any decent PSP games i'm not aware of - somebody recommended a few good un's, and whilst I'm sure ryan's recommendations are spot on, there's a few too many to play for me....

Can anyone recommend a top one or two games, maybe with a retro edge that are worth playing. My favourite games on the system are GTA, Gradius, Final Fantasy Tactics, Castlevania, Killzone Liberation, Guilty gear Judgement and WipeOut Pure, which are all without exception, awesome... but am after some recommendations - any genre...

Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops
Patapon, Hot Shots, or the various arcade compilations (my personal fave is Metal Slug Anthology)

I personally was never really interested in the PSP, but it's strange how your tastes shift once you have a job and some disposable income. Even so, I rarely use my portable systems as portables. Usually I play them in my apartment, and I usually play RPGs. The only times I play those kinds of games when I'm on the go is the 4 hour plane ride to visit my parents.

So that having been said, I found the PSP had a relatively weak RPG and SRPG offering (I'm not a fan of FFT and the close imitators). But I finally saw that they were bringing both Star Oceans to the US, and I had been interested in Yggdra Union's rerelease, so I finally bucked down and got one. Ended up putting on the CFW as well a few days after I got it, as the screen res is large enough to play NES and SNES games (as opposed to the flash cart I have for my DS), so now I have an option for my translated ROMs.

Honestly though, I think it was put best during the Hardware panel at PAX. Everyone in the audience either had their DS with them (the majority) or had one at home, because the DS's two screens and touch screen allow developers to have more options in terms of display and control. As a result, there are more overall gameplay options on the DS, and you're more likely to find something you like.

If you like to blast your eardrums to hell, you will notice that the PSP doesn't get as loud as an iPod.
I have a 8GB stick and that thing never gets full. Hope they fix the volume on the psp it need 2-3 more bars on volume, and on some games like god of war or killzone you can tell the psp can do it because they have more volume than normal.

Ive noticed that too. Killzone, God of War, and Medal of Honor all seem much louder than say Crazy Taxi or Worms 2.

They probably boosted the gain in software or they mastered the audio files to be highly compressed and at the maximum dBa range possible for the audio format. It means more distortion but a perceived increase in audio. (A nice trick most modern producers use to make their songs 'sound' louder than the rest. AKA the loudness war. It's done by basically lowering the dynamic range of a piece of audio through compression and then boosting the signal so that it is almost clipping or is actually hard clipping which adds artificial harmonics into the mix and sometimes sounds quite nice if done well on analogue mastering equipment)

So the PSP3000...

They've made a better screen and changed the logo to the other side and then decreased the already poor battery life?

Something makes me think, why bother?!
