Would you fund a Kickstarter project for Shenmue III ?
How much would you be willing to give / be able to spend on this project?...
What would be your console of preference for this game?...
They could even go as far as start a project for a Dreamcast release. No need to wonder if enough people still play their DC or if enough retro gamers would buy the game. Either the money would be there for the project, or it wouldn't...
Why is this not happenin' ?... (subtle Sonic Adventure reference)
I'd gladly spend €150 on this. Preferably for a Dreamcast release.
But I'm not picky... ^^
Oh yeah, while we're at it. Why not a Kickstarter project to get more DC games online again?...
Surely there must be better potential Dreamcast projects than fucking Redux... -_-

Honestly, I wouldn't. These games are interesting but they're little more than a novelty and we already have two of them.

That's like reading Frank Herbert's Dune, and having to stop halfway...Valkyrie-Favor wrote:Honestly, I wouldn't. These games are interesting but they're little more than a novelty and we already have two of them.
Unacceptable...
It's not like Shenmue, Shenmue II and potentially Shenmue III would all be stand-alone games. They are a continuation of the same story. One that still needs a conclusion...
It's not as much wanting a new Shenmue. It's more wanting an end to the saga...

Count me out at 150 - WAY out. Most I would pay would be 60$.

I'm pretty sure that a kickstarter for Shenmue III would sell like hotcakes and gather enough money to make a game as good as the originals.

Maybe, but I think an HD re-release of the first two games would really help the series be recognized by a mainstream audience again - depending on how that sells, it would be a good gauge for the level of interest people might have for the series. For the type of money that would be required to develop and release a game like Shenmue 3, I think a public push would be necessary to get the funding.General_Norris wrote:I'm pretty sure that a kickstarter for Shenmue III would sell like hotcakes and gather enough money to make a game as good as the originals.

You might be right. First re-release Shenmue and Shenmue II in HD to attract new blood, and then start a Kickstarter project to appeal to both old and new fans...Retrogamer0001 wrote:Maybe, but I think an HD re-release of the first two games would really help the series be recognized by a mainstream audience again - depending on how that sells, it would be a good gauge for the level of interest people might have for the series. On the other hand, that would not be the way to go in case of a Dreamcast Shenmue III project. Making it on Dreamcast anno 2012 would require much much less funds. Which would make successfully funding such a Kickstarter much more feasable...

I'm with Retrogamer0001: I'd kick in for $60. Maybe $70.
Ideally I'd want to play it on the DC, but I'm not sure which Yu Suzuki feels more strongly about at this point: pushing the limits of what's possibly in gaming, or finishing the series any way possible. I'm not sure that Shenmue III could achieve the former, given GTA III, and all of its ilk, making most of what Shenmue did a cliche in today's gaming world. Maybe I'm underestimating the man and his vision, though.
Another question: Would anyone still want Shenmue III if it were radically different from the original Shenmue, and equally bold and ambitious?

Not really...pierrot wrote:Another question: Would anyone still want Shenmue III if it were radically different from the original Shenmue, and equally bold and ambitious?
The whole concept of Shenmue is to make you feel like you're living the 80's again...

Fair 'nough.
Assuming Yu Suzuki were still in charge of it, I'd be in to it.
