I was getting nostalgic for the games of my youth and started picking up lots of old-school works recently (Silhouette Mirage, Alundra, Incredible Crisis, etc.). So, I bought the original PS1 Time Crisis practically new in its original box off Amazon from a very well-rated seller. It arrived yesterday in pretty pristine condition and I set about hooking it up today based on the abundant guides on the net.
I start up the game and the Guncon Calibration screen comes up, and briefly says "Aim and shoot at the center of the screen" as a blue reticle zooms into the center. So I'm all ready to calibrate, when suddenly the message abruptly changes, saying "Check the GunCon connection, and point the gun at the screen."
I aim squarely at the screen and pull the trigger. The screen flashes and I hear a gunshot... But nothing changes. I keep shooting and hearing gunshots, but nothing changes. I check the rca connections, and they seem fine (hooked up like in this diagram). I unplug the guncon from the PS1 and the game skips the calibration and starts playing the opening cut scene, so I plug the guncon back in and find that the buttons work (A, B, and trigger) but the calibration isn't there.
Okay, I thought, lemme try this on the PS2 slim and see if anything changes... Nope, same problem. Okay, so let me see what happens with a different game. I pop in Elemental Gearbolt, and again no calibration, not even a prompt, I pull the trigger and gunshots fire off but despite any aiming nothing is hit.
I've been searching all night for an answer to the problem, but the Internet is eerily silent on this issue. Any ideas? I have an Orion FTV2701A television (I'm pretty sure it's CRT, looks like this) and an original gray PS1. The guncon is one of the original gray ones (NPC-103). I've no idea where the point of failure may be occurring (TV, PS1, guncon, etc.), and any help is much appreciated!
