My local store still carries them AND continues to get new releases. Of course, they still have a ton of boxed PS2 games too. Maybe I just lucked out.

All my gamestops have psp games. I made out huge in getting a psp and a ton of great retro library line ups. Snk,capcom,taito,ea lineups,castlevania. I own a 2d powerhouse.
