So why is Bionic Commando cheaper than Braid/Castle Crashers

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I guess I can accept the differing prices even though it bugs me a bit. I like consistency, but clearly this isn't something that will be possible on Xbox Live Arcade.

I don't want to see prices get much higher than what they're charging for Castle Crashers and Braid though, but Penny Arcade is already trying to break that barrier. I'm going to have bigger expectations for any game going over that twenty dollar mark though. From what I hear Penny Arcade is like a five to six hour game with no replay. Definitely not worth twenty dollars and it really can't justify that price given the additional amount of content the cheaper Castle Crashers looks like it will have

Plus, once you get in the twenty-thirty dollar area, you can pick up used major retail release games that will have a lot more in the way of content. I guess I will just see how things play out. I guess bottom line, if it's a good enough game I will probably pony up for it regardless of price...even if I don't like it.
This line is thinking is exactly what will keep the prices low. If you decide 20 is too much and anything above that is just out of the question, then you can vote by not buying. Chances are lots of others will too and the prices will stay at 10 or 15. I don't mind 15 for something good/interesting. I'd pay 20 for something really good. Above that, it would have to be on par with a retail release.

So what do you think about EA charging 30 for the download of Burnout Paradise GFL? I think that's a pretty good price for that game, and personally I think it's exciting that we are given that option.
I certainly don't mind have some of the "bigger" games available for download. And that seems like a reasonable price. I've actually downloaded Tomb Raider Anniversary from Xbox Live marketplace. It just seemed so much easier than walking into a store or waiting for the game to come through the mail. It's not quite as cool as owning the disc version(which I may pick up one day to add to my collection once it's dirt cheap), but it's nice when you just want to play the damn thing and you can just download it and get to playing quickly. Very convenient.

What they did was odd though. It shows up on your profile as additional achievements for Tomb Raider Legend, while only the disc version actually shows up as a seperate game. What's even weirder is that this make TR: Anniversary the only 360 game I know of where you can actually get achievements for two versions of the same game

I also found it interesting that many original Xbox games can be downloaded as well. Is it Microsoft's way of getting around making those game backwards compatable?

Hmm. The Lost Planet rerelease is essentially the same game(the content could easily have been downloadable add-on), but it is separate and has separate achievements.

Also, the orignal retail versions that Xbox Originals are based on ARE backward compatible, so it's not a workaround.

Something I didn't expect...

Bionic Commando Rearmed First Week Sales: 130,000

"That may not seem impressive compared to package titles that sell in the millions but compared to other digital titles that is a friggin JUGGERNAUT!" - Ben Judd of Capcom.

No. 1, I am really glad the game is selling well. If you read Ben Judd's comments about what Capcom learned from this (basically, do it right and they will buy) you can't say the game was anything other than a success.

No. 2, I'm surprised that 100,000 or 200,000 copies is considered massive sales for a DL game. Wouldn't that be kind of a middling sales figure for a retail game? Do you guys think many people just aren't conditioned to think of these as "real" or worthwhile games, or do you think a lot of people just aren't aware of their options, or what?

I also think many other big publishers like Konami and Square are going to get much deeper into DL game release now that Capcom is really showing the way. With this, CastleCrashers (which I expect to be a huge seller) and the SF2 remix coming up, the sales potential for well-done DL games can't be ignored any more.

Downloadable games could change the industry. I mean look at the music industry now. So many people just download stuff on itunes and don't even buy cds anymore. I hope there will always be games released in physical form though. There's just something nice about owning something tangible. More than likely though people will never pay the kind of high prices that big releases like Mass Effect or Devil May Cry 4 go for without something physical to own. Plus, gamers only have so much hard drive space to work with
