Castle Crashers - Leave out the Hype

Post by Doctor Fugue »

Alrighty, the game is finally here tonight. We can talk about the actual game. Let's give our impressions based on real game experience.

I haven't even decided yet whether to buy it or not. I'll decide as soon as I play the demo. Just like Streets of Rage, I will know how good the game is after I beat up one enemy. If that is satisfying, I would gladly do it over and over. Repetitive beat-em-up games tend to either be insanely awesome, or just plain bad. "The devil is in the details!"

Yeah, I'll probably check this out. We don't get anough beat'em ups these days. What's nice about CC is that it's been built with the 360 controller in mind. Playing Streets of Rage 2 or Golden Axe never feels quite right.

You know Castle Crashers actually has me itching to play Comix Zone again and actually finish the damn thing. I'm going to have to pick it up soon. The unique visual style, the humor, it's actually a lot like Comix Zone.

Thanks for starting an official thread. We needed that.

Well I'm definitely buying, unless the demo is a complete and total bust. Who else is planning to be playing it Wednesday night and has a gold account? Let's get it going! We can refer to the sticky thread for tags, or post them again here. I'm on central time and will be able to be online by about 6 pm.

I cannot think of a better retro style game for the RB forum members to play together online.

@Gamerforlife, Comix Zone is certainly one of my favourite Genesis games. Music, game mechanics, everything is fresh and awesome.
That's interesting what you say about the 360 controller. Is it going to be using both analog sticks? I hope not, since I (of course) will be using an arcade stick!

@RadarScope1, I haven't been on Gold for 6 or 7 months, but I'll definitely sign back up if this game is great.

Well no I don't think it's using two sticks, I just meant that when playing some of the other beat'em ups it feels like they were made with a good d-pad or arcade stick in mind. Castle Crashers should feel just fine control-wise though since it was made with the 360 controller in mind.

Comix Zone is just so chock full of personality and creativity. Really has a nice indie game feel to it(like Castle Crashers)

I don't have an Xbox Live Gold account since I've never had much interest in blasting people online in first person shooters, but I might get one at some point given all the interest on this forum in playing co-op beat'em ups. Especially if Castle Crashers is fun

Yeah it would be cool to play through a lot of them. I'd totally be willing to drop 400 points here or there on Turtles or Golden Axe to play some with retro-minded folks.

I'm jealous.
One of the few times I wish I had a 360.
Repetitive or not, it would be getting my money.
