Well I prefer it to a dictatorship, thank you very much. :) Well at least I think I do, I've not lived under a dictator yet.
Dictatorship works really well as long as you can find the right guy. The problem is finding the right guy.

Not a reason to bow out of voting! I'm in the opposite position.

Rather than discuss politics, can you tell me why in radio commercials for a Subaru dealership I keep hearing it referred to as "Low overhead Marysville"?

Texas has voted for Democrats plenty of times. It's not like you guys live in Utah.

Texas hasn't been blue in a very long time, and we aren't going to go blue any time soon.

I am voting for Barack Obama. The Republican party has really swung entirely too far to the right for my tastes in recent years, especially on social issues. I also think that the completely manufactured debt ceiling crisis caused by the Republican-controlled House of Representatives was the pinnacle of irresponsibility. Moreover, I do not think that the Republican party has worked in good faith to help the country during a time of economic crisis, and I think that many aspects of the Republican party's platform with regard to economic issues are intellectually dishonest. Accordingly, while Mitt Romney may indeed make a fine president, his association with the Republican party prevents me from voting for him. I have never voted a straight ticket in my life, but I will likely do so this year.

In any event - and regardless of whether you agree with me - it is important that each of you vote in the next election. Voting is one of our primary responsibilities as U.S. citizens, and - if you do not vote - then you have no basis for complaining about either our elected representatives or our system of government.

Finally, we are all likely familiar with the the national candidate's platforms. Accordingly, I suggest that you research the positions held by your local candidates and representatives, especially since their policies are much more likely to affect you on a day-to-day basis.

This is the part I think is worthwhile. Local candidates are much more about "their" values, rather than the party values. And, like you said, it has a much bigger impact on your life.

I'm voting for neither of those guys. Might vote for mjmjr. In MA my presidential vote doesn't matter.

But I will vote more seriously on the questions that matter in my state. Like medical marijuana.
