2013 Together Retro Calendar - Looks Like We Made It
Re: 2013 Together Retro Calendar - Looks Like We Made It
So no metal gear 2? Well screw you guys I'll start my own together retro, with hookers and blackjack.

I like the list.
With Baldur's Gate as a Together Retro, I'll hopefully actually force myself to complete it. (I've started it three or four times but never even got to Baldur's Gate itself.)

Re: 2013 Together Retro Poll - Rock the Vote! Vote! Vote!!!!
I liked Unjammer more than PaRappa too. A female lead and rock music? Yes please. The whole thing is even crazier than PaRappa too (assuming you play the uncensored import version)pierrot wrote:I think that's more the series as a whole, personally. I don't find it to be a very intuitive series of rhythm games, but once I actually figured out Um Jammer Lammy, I enjoyed it far more than being constantly defeated by the original Parappa. Also (after the first stage, anyway) I like the music in Lammy more than what I've heard from Parappa.noiseredux wrote:just me, or was Un Jammer terrible compared to Parappa? I found the timing was really off or at least less forgiving than Parappa.pierrot wrote:I haven't followed this thread from start to finish; Did anyone mention Um Jammer Lammy. There's a Parappa mode after you complete it, so in that way, it could appeal to a greater number of people.
Nothing beats Space Channel 5 though

Blackjack! Hey, have we ever considered a casino collection on TR? I have Vegas Dream for the NES. Good times when my friend discovered how to make those random encounters as you play come up more often, if you were lucky you could make more money from them than actually gambling. And of course the Nintendo Power password which gave you millions of dollars and let you see the endingflex wood wrote:So no metal gear 2? Just kidding, of course, but anytime I can share a good game story, I grab that opportunity.

Awesome. If there's any interest from the New England peeps I'd love to host a FFS meet up that month on my MVS (& whatever console ports we can scrounge up)noiseredux wrote:Jun - Fighting - Fatal Fury Special

I'm not positive but guessing this quote won't make the TR write-up cutJul - Racing - Road Rash series Even my fond memories can't make this game playable again.

Re: 2013 Together Retro Calendar - Looks Like We Made It
So, for several of these games I have the choice of multiple systems. Which versions are best?
These games in particular:
Bubble Bobble - I have a choice between NES, Master System, Saturn, GB, GBC, GBA, Playstation, Game Gear and DS. I've heard bad things about the DS version in particular, but of the rest, what's best? I'd assume Saturn would be the best, but it's always worth asking!
Lemmings: Yes, it came out on everything, so my question is: Whic is the best non-computer port - console or handheld only?
Fantastic Dizzy - Another one with lots of options. I can play it on NES, Master System, Mega Drive and Game Gear. Which is best? Is the 16 bit version superior to the 8 bit ones, or vice versa?
Fatal Fury Special - I assume I'm right to think that it's Neo Geo (or NG emulation on VC or similar) or bust with this one?
TMNT Turtles In Time - Does this also include Hyperstone Heist, or not?
Zombies Ate My Neighbors - SNES or Mega Drive?
Parappa The Rapper - PS1 or PSP?
Wing Commander - PC is obviously best, but which is better out of 3DO and SNES? I'd assume the more powerful console is better, but again, I've been surprised before!

Re: 2013 Together Retro Calendar - Looks Like We Made It
The SNES fan in me says go for any game that has a SNES port. But the realist in me is unsure of the quality of a few of the ports. Best best is the SNES for Lemmings, TMNT, ZAMN and WC. FFS made it onto the SNES, but I don't think it would be as good as NG.alienjesus wrote:So, for several of these games I have the choice of multiple systems. Which versions are best?
