I've not seen it done and I have no desire to do it.
Maybe someone else will try it ?

Maybe. If someone wants to give it a whirl then definitely hit me up. I'm willing to be the test subject.hailrazer wrote:I've not seen it done and I have no desire to do it.

You'd probably find someone more willing on the Ben Heck forums. That's the main congregation point for console modders.

Re: Nomad --- New screen and better battery pack.
I have put a modern lcd into a GG.

I used a Viletim video out board and tried to be tricky with the screen (mention it in the post).
Would I do it again? Probably not, only worth doing if you are going to play Master System games.

Re: Nomad --- New screen and better battery pack.
Well, I have the Master System converter that plugs into the cart slot. You won't do it even as a commission-based project?
Man, the Game Gear must really be hated by the entire hobbyist world. I didn't know it was that unpopular of a modding system, but knowing Sega and their inferior components in the GG I don't doubt it. I know that I've replaced the caps twice in the life of this GG, but it is a 20 year old console

It's just so much easier to make all the Game Gear games play perfectly on any other handheld...

I think it's only possible on the PSP right?Anapan wrote:It's just so much easier to make all the Game Gear games play perfectly on any other handheld...

Re: Nomad --- New screen and better battery pack.
Anyone know the correct screen on eBay? Seems to be this one from reading around everything I could find.
Re: Nomad --- New screen and better battery pack.
This screen ended up working great for anyone looking to do this. It is night and day better in quality, the original Nomad screen is terrible.
In case this listing dies like the previous ones, the seller is: soonhua_digital
Also the place holder image they used for future reference:

It really is a painfully easy mod, everybody with a Nomad and basic soldering skills should give it a go. It will only cost you around $25. All you need is a soldering iron, a screwdriver and the screen.
You solder only 4 wires (2 grounds, 1 power and 1 video) just like what is shown in the original post.
Here is an image of the back of the screen linked above so you can see the exact solder points:
Yellow = video
Black = ground
Red = power
It is difficult to get a quality picture of the screen, but these shots should do the job in illustrating how much nicer it looks:
