I think it is funny how much we both like the genre yet so wildly disagree on some films therein. I guess that's what makes it a fun genre to discuss!
For the most part, I've got to agree with dsh. No matter how much I may love Hellraiser, I must admit that it does have it's flaws, excluding me from giving it the label of 'perfect' (I do think he rated it a bit harshly, however. But then again, I've always been a little more generous with my ratings).

House on Haunted Hill (1959)

"It would make a good headline. Playboy kills wife with champagne cork."

Hee hee, Vincent Price.

This movie was a treat. I kept laughing (in a good way) at all the crazy happenings and twists and turns. So much fun.

"Its a pity you didn't know when you started your game of murder that I was playing too."

Has anybody seen the remake? How does it compare?

I saw the remake. I've watched so many of those Dark Castle remakes. I'm kind of a sucker for them. They mostly suck, but are total stupid eye-candy and at least entertain. House on Haunted Hill's remake was fun.

If you re-watch THE AUDITION you may ask yourself "why am I re-watching THE AUDITION?".

But if you haven't watched THE AUDITION, it is worth a whirl.

I own the blood bag edition of Ichi the Killer, along with Miike's films Izo, Gozu, Zebraman, and White Collar Worker Kintaro. He's my favorite Japanese director...

Anyway, I just watched Phenomena. That was bizarre. So Jennifer Connelly can telepathically control insects and must use them to track down a spear-wielding murderer at her all female boarding school...except that the staff there think she's suffering from schizophrenia. Also, there's a monkey with a straight razor. I can definitely see how the film influenced the Clock Tower games, in particular the first one, but I really want to know how this film came into being, because it's nothing short of bizarre!

That said, it's got some awesome murder scenes, and there's one gory sequence in particular involving Connelly and a pool full of maggot-infested corpses. Plus the theme sounds like it came out of Castlevania:
