You know I was all about the pinball, but I did sit down and dedicate myself to playing the other TR game this month, so now EE proudly presents....

An evening with Maniac Mansion

I've had MM Deluxe for a couple of years after reading about it on HG 101. I understand that it remained true to the PC original. I played through it again, remembering all I did, and it was a great experience. My hangups were finding the key for the car outside, getting the one character I had out of the way for shutting off the power before he got caught, and almost forgetting about who to give the contract to as well as that damn purple key card.

So anyways, I did finish it, and after the ending, I get a not so fancy screen -

Um.... yay?

So yes, it was a great trip to go back to and to remember everything to complete it.

Now back to Crush!

You got a contract? Who did you beat the game with?

I took Bernards route, saved the day by
phoning the Alien Space Police.

I have Alien Crush, Devil's Crush and Maniac Mansion (NES). I'll at least play some pinball. Not sure If I'll get into Maniac Mansion, though. That takes too much thinking!

My go to team - Razor & Bernard. But with those 2, you could complete it 2 different ways, either how I did it w/ the contract, or with the radio. The thought occurred to me as I was playing it last night.

A side note on Crush -- Jaki Crush was apparently developed by Compile in addition with Naxat (!)

Picked up Alien Crush on PSN, good times. Just starting but 1.9 million in my first run.

On a sort of related note, I started and finished Day of the Tentacle tonight. Holy crap, Maniac Mansion was pretty good, but this game blew me away. One of the most enjoyable adventure games I've ever played, with great animation, music, script and puzzles. No puzzles were too hard, but I did need some hints for a few of the later ones. A lot of the ones I didn't figure out were due to a lack of using Push and Pull on the command list, so if there's one very mild criticism I have it's that I don't like the SCUMM system. However, it's far preferable to a text parser, and significantly simplified from Maniac Mansion (9 verbs instead of 15, including the immensely helpful 'look at' command).

The characters were awesome (I'm a big fan of the slightly loopy Laverne) and I couldn't stop playing once I'd started - I did the whole thing in one sitting. It makes me sad that there were no more in the series. It's certainly got me excited for playing more 90s LucasArts adventures - I've played 2 now, including this and Grim Fandango.

I have Monkey Island 1 & 2 HD waiting on me, so I think I'll go for those next. I'll be whacking a few more onto my 'must buy' list though, for sure.

oddly, I've loved Maniac Mansion since it was released on NES but never played the sequel.

And I loved Secret of Monkey Island since it was released on Sega CD, but never played ANY of the sequels.

playing some Dragon's Fury (Devil's Crush... right?) cuz PCE emulation is rough. Anyway, first try was 1.9M... I don't know if that's any good for a guy who never plays pinball games?

I believe I've put myself into an unbeatable situation on Maniac Mansion.

I looked up some help when I couldn't figure out what to do next, and while I didn't check every detail, apparently I now have no way to get a password I need that's different for every game.

Shit.
