Really, at this point the only good documentary I have seen on games is Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the arcade, which is ok.
The King of Kong is fun if you ignore it's actively lying to you and just consider it fiction.

Re: Indie Game The Movie
Chasing Ghosts is okay because it's a documentary about a specific part of video game history, the rise and fall of arcades during the golden age.
It's still mostly about the eccentric personalities we're introduced to and has a lot of grumbling about how games were better when they played them but at least it served as a good snapshot of what being a "gamer" was like in the formative years of video games.

So what sort of video game documentary would you want to see?

I loved IG:TM, but then again I enjoy anything Edmund McMillen does. The movie shines because of him.
Re: Indie Game The Movie
I DID think this was insightful on how much people really believe in the work they're doing on these particular indie games and how personal it is to them, despite their "personalities" as others put it. Who they are, however pleasant/unpleasant it may be to watch, is ultimately what drove them to create Braid/Super Meat Boy/Fez. What really got me, in terms of Fez and Braid, is that they truly thought of it as more of a game but rather an extension of themselves. Really fascinating how people dedicate their whole lives to something that others may see as a trivial "game" IMO and I thought the documentary did a good job at portraying that. I was rather hopeful going in that it would go more over the process of making the games, assembling the teams, going over the history etc. but it was ultimately satisfying to watch I would say.

Here's a fun little short video about indie games:

It de-emphasizes the value of big budget games and over inflates the importance of indie games, but it shows a lot of great screenshots from some of the great indies out there.

I watched this a couple of days ago and was pretty horrified at how childish and neurotic most of the programmers actually were. I'd never heard of Fish before, but his total immaturity has left an impression on me. I bet his former partener, whoever he was, was glad to get out.
However, I did come away wanting to play the games that were featured.

Someone mentioned on here about Ecstacy of Order, a docu about the worlds greatest Tetris players. I had never heard of it before, so I gave it a watch last night and must say I thought it was excellent. Easily my favourite video game docu i've personally seen.

Re: Indie Game The Movie
I watched this the other day on Netflix (month off of school for winter break, a month free trial of Netflix Instant! It's a Win Win!!) and thought it was really good. I felt that while at times Fish was a tad immature, I probably resonated the most with him. I think if I were in the same shoes, I would probably be doing the same things. It is possible that he has some sort of mental illness, as creative types also have a tendency to be a bit off in that area. I know I am, and I am not the only one.
The movie also made me want to play more indie games. I loved what I played of Super Meat Boy, and really enjoyed the demo for Braid and I got the full game some time ago in a Humble Bundle, but I never really played it too much. I remember this summer Fez was getting a bunch of high scores, but I didn't really check it out, but now after seeing it in the film, it looks really cool and I will have to check it out.

Re: Indie Game The Movie
I checked out the preview for this after watching dsh's Phil Fish video recommendation.
Who was the bigger guy (tats) that likened being an indie developer to being in a concentration camp? I love how socially retarded the gaming community can be at times. What a dumb, ignorant comment.
