Any pics? I wouldn't mind driving up there for this event.

No, unfortunately I didn't really think there would be much to photograph like previous years but this year it was like a nice fancy event. Previously it was like a game swap meet in a hotel. It's legit now, got the real panels, Retroware tv was there, retro games roadshow, pat the nes punk and plenty more i'm forgetting. $25 this time for the whole weekend. The vendors bled me dry as usual.hashiriya1 wrote:Any pics? I wouldn't mind driving up there for this event.
I'll check with a friend if he took any pics, but his focus was on the free play arcade.
I drive about 5 hours each way to go to the show but I always stop at various places I know along I-5 for other retro games. Spend some of my budget before I even get there.

Re: Portland Retro Gaming Expo 2012
The Expo was sick this year! I work at the venue and connected up the Expo's management with the building. Spent 2 days moving in the arcade with the Ground Kontrol crew, it was a ton of work! I brought Puzzle Fighter and ran that tournament as well as auctioning off my Blasteroids arcade for Cat Adoption Team.
Also my booth was the one with the retro themed ceramic pints and shot glasses back by the pinballs. On Sunday we shifted the focus to "Big Pauper" an amazing circuit modification artist. He takes retro systems and mod's them to do interesting video glitches and fx.
I agree the show really stepped up its game this year. As they get used to being in such a different facility it will only get better. The panels were great this year and the Tetris competition with $1000 on the line was awesome!

Re: Portland Retro Gaming Expo 2012
I'm not sure I saw your booth. My only complaints would be some of the booth space was parked over near the arcade in the dark separated by the tournament players. So it was easy for them to be ignored. I think they should push the tournament closer to the corner of the arcade area.gradualmeltdown wrote:Also my booth was the one with the retro themed ceramic pints and shot glasses back by the pinballs. The other complaint is a lack of a clear schedule for the panels/events. They had the color graphic ones propped up near the panel areas and online but didn't have one printed in the bags or in the event guide.
Other than that I felt a good value for the amount of stuff available at the event.

I had a great time at the Expo...so much awesome stuff! All they need to add is a Video Game Museum and they will rival the CGE in Vegas.

In case you couldn't tell, the AtariAge booth was my favorite.

Anybody know how much some of those auction items went for? Like the Gamecube prototype, etc?

I am jealous. Dallas doesn't have gaming expos other than quake, and people aren't really selling stuff.

Those items weren't prototypes they were Dev units. The only dev unit that sold was the PS1 from what I heard. The other dev units they wanted about 300+ for each.Zafo999 wrote:Anybody know how much some of those auction items went for? Like the Gamecube prototype, etc?
Unless I missed something in the auction lot.
