I would agree with this, I hope this list you all put together isn't final. I wasn't here for the nominations or voting last year, but weren't there genre vote threads and all that? It seems like we took leftovers from last year and 1 or 2 people's suggestion and threw it against the wall and VOILA! a list in 2 days with only that much people's input. Also what DSH said, TSS had too many "pricey" ports and so we go with MG2 which doesn't seem all that much different as far as the ports?

And where the heck did HL2 come from for an FPS idea? Why not Deus Ex? Heck of a lot more playability there.

Plus, unlike this year where I was and am able to play everything, next year doesn't look all that grand for me so far

All I'm asking is, please don't finalize everything in 2 days. There's got to be more.

holy smokes dude. Calm down. Nobody said anything about finalizing. I've said multiple times that it's a tentative list, and then asked everyone for feedback. The goal is to make a final list that the majority feels good about overall. Believe it or not but until recent year or two the calendar had no input from members. It was just dictated by Racket & Fast. Last year we voted on 4 games because we had genres that we weren't certain on which title to go with. Votes may or may not be necessary this year depending how this thread goes. Now everyone take a deep breath and keep discussing until we all feel happy and then we'll go get some chili dogs, alright?

Sorry, please realize that I had no idea how this all went, but I just remember seeing tons of voting threads on the TR sub-forum and when I saw a list with months up I thought that was it. As it stands, I'd only be able to do 6 of the 12 games in 2013 which would be a disappointment. I'm really hoping more can suggest other stuff.

Perhaps if it was done the old way it'd be better?

Why could you only do 6? Surely the vast majority of everything suggested so far is able to be easily emulated or enjoyed on a system that is relatively inexpensive. Is it just because you don't have some of the systems? I'd think you could emulate almost anything proposed thus far...

I know you guys have pretty much figured this out but I'll throw my nomination into the ring anyway.

Wing Commander 2: Vengeance of the Kilrathi

Genre: Space Sim

Why we should play it: It's something different from the usual genres and is a bit under-appreciated possibly because it was a never ported PC exclusive. It's often considered by fans to be one of the best entries in the franchise due to its graphical style, solid gameplay and incredibly rich storytelling for a game from 1991. It can be purchased cheaply at GOG and it's also somewhat topical with the unveiling of Chris Robert's new game coming later this month.

I've never played a Wing Commander game. But is there a good one you'd suggest that actually does have ports to multiple consoles?

This would be interesting for me, as I never played SC52, but have an easily accessible copy of it for the PS2. Course that same compilation has the first game too, so I'm good either way

I feel like the first game would be better as it's easy to get for DC, PS2 and 360. Whereas the sequel is only an import on DC. Unless there's some over-powering reason the 2nd is far better than the 1st?

I wouldn't know. I often hear that it's better, but I don't know if the difference between the two is very large or just a case of the sequel being marginally better.

It's worth mentioning that the sequel is available on on XBLA/PSN/Steam I believe, for people who have access to those.

Ok, looking at the list again, it seems to be easier than I thought. I would have to find out how much those PC titles go for (BG/HL), and I'd have to see how difficult it is to emulate the MSX2 (remember Super Star Shooter on STGT and getting the X68000 to work?). Those 3 I'd have to do some research on. I like the genres represented, as well as some of the choices, but I hope we can get some more suggestions out before everything's considered. Carry on!
