If we go racing over sports, Road Rash is a pretty cool pick. I don't think I've ever tried to beat those games. I know I've played them at one time or another.

so then it's looking like this...

Jan - RPG - Baldur's Gate
Feb - Puzzle - Puyo Puyo
Mar - Action/Adv - Metal Gear 2
Apr - FPS - Half-Life
May - Platformer - Fantastic Dizzy
Jun - Fighting - Fatal Fury Special
Jul - Racing - Road Rash series
Aug - Beat-em-up - TMNT Turtles In Time
Sep - Text Aventure - Zork
Oct - Horror Double Feature - House of the Dead 2 / Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Nov - Rhythm - Space Channel 5 or Parappa (poll)
Dec - Strategy - MULE

...all of which looks really good to me for the most part. I don't know how much I'll enjoy a WRPG, but we have certainly given JRPG's more time in TR, so it's only fair. And I don't know anything about MULE.

What's everyone's feeling on the Space Channel 5 vs Parappa thing? I vote SC5 as its ports are more varied (DC, PS2, 360) whereas Parappa is strictly Sony. And also SC5 is a left-over from last year's nominations/votes.

EDIT: oops, meant the first Half-Life.

The list looks great to me.

As for SC5 vs Parappa, that's a real tough call for me. I've never really played much of either game, but both of them look really neat.

Probably should just be put up as a poll I think. If the votes are too close we could always double them up I guess.

PaRappa and SC5 both have their charm, but I think SC5 is much better and probably holds up better too. I really need to play SC5 2 some day. I've had a copy of it for ages

Replace Metal Gear 2 with Centipede, Spy Hunter, or Shock Troopers and I'm happy. I feel we need some classic arcade title (and I don't think about Centipede as a shmup).

1. I feel like we have a good solid block of arcade titles in the Summer months.
2. Metal Gear 2 sounds interesting as an early title in a popular series that most of us have never played.
3. I really don't care for Centipede when I know something like Galaga exists.
4. I gave you Baldur's Gate... STFU!
5. ZAMN is already a run-n-gun ala Shock Troopers.

1. Centipede is a "classic" arcade title in that it comes from the classic era/golden age. Our existing ones do not.
2. I love Metal Gear Solid games but hate early Metal Gear titles. Besides, MG2 is also only available via an MSX2, a PS2 collector's edition collection of games, a pricey PS2 stand-alone game, or a modern console collection. It isn't cheaply attained.
3. We did Galaga.
4. You gave the 31 people who voted for BG last year (vs. the 34 who voted for Ys) BG. STFU. 8)
5. ZAMN isn't really a run and gun - too much exploring/walking.

It's still early to call really. Even the most popular choices still only have 4 votes. When I was gathering results last year we had numbers in double digits for most of the winning choices.

I'd throw in my vote for HotD2 aswell, why not.

As for Parappa, mostly, I just want to play it because I haven't done so before, and SC5 I've beaten many times. If SC5 wins, I guess I'll just pick up the sequel to play instead. I do feel that it's also had a bigger influence than Space Channel 5, as one of the most successful early rhythm games.

if more people want to get rid of MG2, then that's fine. Again, I'm all for pleasing the community here. But seriously... let's find a more interesting golden age game than Centipede.

Spy Hunter is cool, I guess. Is Shock Troopers really any more golden age arcade than Fatul Fury or TMNT though?
