Should I Do A Cheap 360/PS3?

Post by racketboy »

I was a little hesitant to do the Wii article since it's not retro, but I did the research for myself anyway.
The response has been pretty good, so I'm wondering if I should round up lists for the 360 and PS3 (and maybe PSP)

Should I do these or should I stick to the retro stuff?

This seems way too premature.

Ok, I think I've said this before, but I don't frequent the blog as much as I should.

But I do know you Racket, and what I do know is that you are retro. And furthermore you buy games cheap and when the console isn't really in its prime. 360 and PS3 are still in their prime, so I'd suggest no. As Moz said, it's a little premature.

I think an article doing a retro roundup for each of the current systems would be good - e.g. covering various collections/downloads/etc. of retro-gamer oriented releases. On Sony systems, for example:

PSP
-----
Sega Mega Drive Collection
Gradius Collection
Salamander Portable
Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded
Capcom Classics Collection Remixed
Capcom Puzzle Collection
Metal Slug Anthology
EA Replay
Atari Classics Evolved
Activision Hits Remixed
Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play
Taito Legends: Powered Up
Namco Battle Museum
Lemmings
Ultimate Ghosts N' Goblins
Mega Man Powered Up
Lemmings Platinum
Space Invaders Extreme
Final Fantasy remakes
more that slip my mind...

PS3/PSN
----------
PS1 releases (can be played on PSP or PS3)
Bionic Commando: Rearmed
1942: Joint Strike
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
Gauntlet II
Mortal Kombat II
Joust
Q-Bert
a few others I can't recall at the moment...

And I know there are some nice XBLA exclusives out there too - not to mention the great retro-themed games for the DS (e.g New Super Mario Bros.). So if you covered these kind of things, I think you'd have an article that fits the theme of the site well.

Yes but wait a while and/or update it once this war is over.

I'd agree, Wiis are honoury Retro consoles as they are actually old technology inside :P . PS3 and 360 are an entirely different audience, ones who prefer a mindless FPS to more Retro style gameplay. Still, it is your site Racket... Do as you please.

Tipped the scales in favor of retro.

I saw the wii article and had to do a double take to make sure i was at the right website

i say wait, they are still releasing games for the systems and they are all current gen. i could be biased cause i dont own any, but your site does say "your guide for a retro gaming lifestyle." i liked the idea of the other poster who said to do an article discussing some more on the retro games being released current gen, and throwbacks like odin sphere. when the next gen comes out would be the time for this site to do the hidden gems and cheapest games worth your time, etc. the thing that really makes those articles work is hindsight. the games have been put to the test and hold up, even with the newer consoles. recomending the games now when they have not been put to the test of time is a bit premature. but then again it is your site and i will keep coming back. so do whatever makes you happy. thanks for this site
