Saturn Modchip Problems
I just recieved a modchip for my model 2 32-pin Saturn. I installed the chip, and soldered the wires, but when I power on my saturn, the lens and the disc spinning mechanism do not move. I got a "Checking disk format" error. What could be the problem? I don't know exactly where to solder the power wire, though. I tried wedging it into the space between the metal rod sticking up and the other piece of metal lower down. As for the signal cable, I put it through the "B" hole and bent it up, then soldering it in place. I'm pretty sure the modchip and ribbon are in as far as they can go. Just to make sure, I tried pushing the modchip in harder, but I heard a snapping sound. I took the modchip out. It didn't seem to be damaged, at least from what I could see. I put it back in. What should I do to fix this?

make sure the chip is plugged all the way in, that seems to be the most common problem.
as far as the wires, the instructions provided on this site show a pretty clear picture of where they go.
i had a similar problem, but it was because they chip wasnt in all the way, and by reading the troubleshooting comments that seems to be the most common problem

Yeah the chips are a bit flimsy so be careful, but an awful lot of force is needed to shove the chip in. It is often reccomended to shave down the sides of the chip with a blade of some sort to help it fit in.

Sounds like you needed to file down the edges of the plug-in part before putting too much force on it.
Try that and see if it still works...
And sorry, I don't do installs -- for various reasons.

I filed down the edges, and the power wire came off the chip. I tried for a wile to get the wire back exposed, but now the wire's too short, and I don't have any extra wire for this, nor do I know what kind it is. I think I just wasted 40 dollars.
I have tried everything. Really, everything. My only conclusion can be that the chip is broken. Wether it happened before or after it arrived, I'm not sure, but that seems to be the only logical assumption. Now what do I do?
