Filemaker is a database program. I used it at one of my last jobs and I got to know a teeny bit about it. You can build the database any way you want, and it's graphical. I built one for my movie collection (over 400 movies), a home inventory for insurance reasons, and for my book library.
At any rate, my reason for my post. Would anyone like one for their videogame collection? I noticed someone just posted that they have 450 NES games and keep a list of missing ones.
Anyway, I threw one together and it's easily editable so if someone wanted to add something to it, they most definitely could. Here's a screenshot of what the DB would look like at its most bare-bones state. I took a picture and posted it, I didn't want to resize it so you could see the names of the different fields, so here you go.

Additionally, there are other layouts not shown in the pic. You can add genres and platforms at any time. What happens when you add a new game is you put in the name and the genre/platform fields will have dropdown boxes so you can just choose "rpg" or "fighter" etc.
If anyone would like a copy, let me know, I'll upload it for you somewhere. But you DO HAVE TO HAVE Filemaker, at least version 8 on your computer. Filemaker isn't free, though my file of course, would be.
Anyone here use/have Filemaker?

Re: Anyone here use/have Filemaker?
I'm pretty sure that there's a way to either save the database as stand-alone (a self-contained program, with execution targeted to either Mac or PC). There used to be a smaller, freely available Filemaker DB viewer available from Filemaker (I'm not sure if this will let you edit records, though), but I can't find it on their website.indecks wrote:If anyone would like a copy, let me know, I'll upload it for you somewhere. There's also TheBackloggery.com where you can enter in your collection to keep track of what you've completed.
I checked with a buddy of mine who is MUCH more adept at Filemaker than I am and apparently there is a solution for this. It would involve creating the database (done) and then packing it into a runtime solution, aka an .exe file so the user doesn't need to have FM installed.
I'll look into this and see about getting it up and running.
