Wiimotes at my Walmart are all now Wii U branded except for one lonely leftover. It's getting closer...

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
finally had a chance to play the Wii U from the Wii U Experience event last night. from what i collected, i am definitely getting one. i love how the new control pad(s) feels on my hands and the graphics on the Wii U is like a powerful high end PC today (looking at Dark Knight run so smoothly)....but the question for me is when? well probably not a launch. the games available at launch is not tempting enough to get me one right away...but they are definitely fun. so for now, my original Wii and other consoles are enough to keep me watching from distant.

To be frank, there are only a handful of PC games that actually bother to take advantage of the hardware and aren't just 360 ports.dsheinem wrote:Sorry, 7, you aren't even close on this one.sevin0seven wrote:the graphics on the Wii U is like a powerful high end PC today (looking at Dark Knight run so smoothly)

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
The Wii U's graphics will be better than the PS3's and 360's. That's a given with any new generation. Look at the best looking games for current consoles. How much more realistic can it really get before you stop making sense and start being a nit-picky douche? I mean, seriously. Shit's pretty damn realistic looking these days. Sure, there's always room for improvement, but it's about at the point where it'll be like bitching about how your grade is too low when you have a 98 in the class.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
While graphics could certainly look more realistic ... better is a different situation.
We are at a threshold, I think, where the jump in graphics just isn't going to be as perceivable and what is going to make games "look" better is things in motion vs. raw rendering ability.
If the world of CGI has taught us anything yet ... we've been seeing it long enough in movies to start making some preliminary points about it ... namely, realism comes from motion, not necessarily fidelity. There's a reason why some stuff in Jurassic Park, for example, looks more realistic than stuff from Avatar ... even though if you were to pause any given frame in either movie ... you could start spotting problems in Jurassic Park and start having trouble in Avatar ... but behavior is king.
I think this is the next step, making things behave real ... rather than just having proper fidelity. Graphics will always get better ... but we're getting to the point where we're just iterating on pipelines or techniques to get them to run better in real-time ... and the fruits from that will give diminishing returns.
Behavior on the other hand ... can convince you something incredible is happening on screen.
In terms of graphical fidelity comparing existing known consoles ... the Wii U easily has the highest graphical fidelity ... if you don't think so, you should look at non-resized videos of gameplay in full 1080P on Wii U vs games on 360 or PS3 ... it's obviously higher quality.
Also, if I already made these points in this thread, I apologize. It's been awhile since I read some of this stuff >_>

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
A lot of people keep suggesting that the Wii U's graphics will be better than 360/PS3, but there's not yet any substantive support to make that claim...
