Might as well:

Gaming Goals:
- To play more games
I have been playing more. Haven't beaten anything yet, but I have been playing. So far, so good.

Collecting Goals
- Really the only things I'm planning for is a possible Dreamcast or Saturn purchase
Haven't picked up either, but did score that Game Gear, Nomad and CDX, so at least everything stayed within the Sega family

3/4s through (how on Earth did this happen!?) so here's another update.

Gaming Goals:
- Beat some classic point 'n' click adventures:
Still only beat Grim Fandango, but I hope to take out both Maniac Mansion games for October's together retro
- Whittle down my unbeaten Final Fantasy and Sonic the Hedgehog games:
Beat Sonic Adventure DX, Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy V (which I bought to play it, so it probably doesn't count XD)
- Try out a few classic home computer games on my Amiga and Commodore 64:
Still haven't purchased a new adapter for my Amiga or a new Datasette for my C64, so no progress here.
- Beat at least half of the games up for Together Retro this year!:
Beaten so far for the first time: Golden Axe Warrior, Soul Calibur, Ys, Command & Conquer and Mega Bomberman. Also beaten: Gunstar and Guardian Heroes. If I beat the games I want to during October and November I should've easily achieved this
- Have 4 or Less unbeaten games per system on my backloggery before my Birthday (Dec. 24th):
Wii is down to 6, PC is at 7, but everything else is there already. Still achievable.

Collecting Goals
- Buy at least one new game for all of the following systems: NES, SNES, Xbox, PS2, Mega Drive, Dreamcast, Commodore 64, Amiga, Turbografx:
Acquired: NES - Mario 2 & Ducktales, SNES: Super Ghouls n Ghosts, Xbox - Panzer Dragoon Orta, DOA3, Indiana Jones & Metal Arms, PS2 - Stretch Panic & Tekken Tag, Mega Drive: Mercs, Dreamcast: Tony Hawk 2 & Soul Calibur. Not acquired for: C64, Amiga, TG16.
- Buy a whole bunch of cheap DS games while the prices are low (This should be easy ):
Picked up Phoenix Wright 3, Trauma Centre, Kirby: Mouse Attack & Pac-Pix. This has been a harder mission than anticipated actually, because I have most of the games I see at low price points.
- Acquire one or two new consoles from this list: PSP, Mega CD, Wonderswan color, Atari 2600:
I got myself a PSP but the screen had issues and I couldn't fix the damn thing. So I got another one!

Not too bad so far this year. Some missions are seeming a little outside of the realms of likelihood now - I won't be picking up any new turbografx games or a wonderswan any time soon, and i don't think I'll be getting my amiga or c64 up and running before the years out either. I've already achieved a fair few of my goals, so I'm happy.

Continue buying PC games (PC collecting is a goal without end, you know?)
Buy the last handful of DS games I want that I don't have
Buy the last handful of oXbox games I want that I don't have
Buy the last handful of N64 games I want that I don't have
Upgrade my entire N64 collection to CIB
Buy a next-gen system of some sort: either a revision-model 3DS, a Vita, or a Wii U
VGA Box for my Dreamcast
Component cables for my Gamecube

I have no real gaming goals other than to keep working on my backlog. Also I want to hit 4000 posts this year (it'll be difficult to reach, but I'll try.)
Bolded goals are the ones I've met. Blue goals are ones I've made progress on but still haven't completed. The rest I've pretty much failed on, but the year isn't over yet.

Gaming Goals:
-I want to 1cc a well-respected shmup - Nope - unless novice mode of DoDonPachi Resurrection or a five minute run of Super Star Shooter counts...
-I want to delve into both classic JRPGs and classic WRPGs even further than I did last year - Yes, I played FFIV, at least some of Diablo 2, and plan to play Baldur's Gate before the year is out. I've played several modern WRPGs too...
-I want to find a point and click adventure game that I actually enjoy - Nope.
-I want to play considerably more PC games (or cross platform games on PC) than I did last year - Yes, i think so.
-I want to spend less time gaming and more time writing about gaming in a meaningful/thought-provoking way (and for a broader audience) - Yup.

Collecting Goals
-I want to set a clear goal by the end of January for a "major thing" to collect for the year (I know this is a cop out, but I need more time to think it over!) - A complete 7800 collection is in my sights...
-I want to round out my PSP and Wii collection when these consoles start getting phased out (already have a good start on this :)) a lot of success/ progress on both fronts.
-I want to pick up the vast majority of the remaining Atari 2600/7800/Jaguar games that I have interest in owning. -A TON of success with 2600/7800 titles. I don't know what Jaguar games I was thinking of

Might as well look at this now as I doubt much will change in two months...

Gaming Goals:
Finish the classic Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star games. Didn't happen.
Finally beat Operation C. Didn't happen.
Stop sucking so bad at shmups. Managed to get some pretty decent scores in DDPR and DeathSmiles. Still light years away from a 1cc but not bad.
Complete a couple of Western RPGs. Didn't happen.

Collecting Goals:
Acquire more classic CD RPGs (Sega CD/Turbo CD/Saturn). Managed to get 1 Sega CD RPG, 4 Saturn RPGs, and 6 Turbo RPGs. Not bad.
Acquire most of the current gen games from my Amazon wishlist. Done! Wishlist is whittled down to games that haven't been released yet.
Finish (or at least come close to finishing) my Final Fantasy Collection. I still need the WonderSwan Color version of Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, the Crystal Chronicles Wii game, and of course the new games. Managed to get all of these except for the WonderSwan ports of Final Fantasy I and IV (I forgot about that one!).
Get more games for the following systems: 3DO, Master System, TurboGrafx-16, Neo Geo AES, and Neo Geo Pocket Color. Only got a handful of games for these consoles. Did better than expected with the Master System though.
Complete my Commodore 64 system. I need the datasette and I'd like to track down the official joystick too. Nope. My C64 has been collecting dust all year. May ask for some of this for Christmas though.
Maybe get a Vita before the year ends. Got it! Still haven't bought any games yet...

Work through the Wii Mario/Zelda games.
Finally complete Ocarina of Time, I've started that game so many times but never stuck with it.
Gaming
Well I haven't done any of these. I posted this in January and had a daughter in February so gaming has been minimal really. I have completed Rayman Origins and got through a fair amount of Ocarina of Time, just past the Water Temple, but I haven't gone back to it in months. I've put about 15 hours into Twilight Princess which is barely scratching the surface, and had to sell a whole bunch of my Wii games as I really don't have the time or money.
What I have done is dug out the N64 and been playing Mario 64. This is actually the perfect game for jumping in and out of when you have a child to watch.

Collecting
I have had to sell most of my games, but I'm looking to work my way through the N64 catalogue, starting with Mario 64 which I never completed at the time. I have taken to collecting N64 and Dreamcast magazines, and most of the time I prefer reading about games than playing them! I think I will look at collecting all the good N64 games eventually, especially as the early ones like Wave Race and Pilotwings are dirt cheap.
Currently playing Splinter Cell: Blacklist

Gaming:
I'd like to actually play more games. I've been buying so many and playing so few.

Collecting:
I would like to aggressively expand my collection of rare NES games, or purchase a copy of Earthbound.

Fuck it, I'm calling it now, anything here that isn't currently achieved won't be by Tuesday morning, and my goals for 2013 have been set. Here's how my goals went this year:

Gaming Goals:
- Beat some classic point 'n' click adventures:
Success! Beat a ton of LucasArts games including both Maniac Mansions, the first 2 Monkey Islands, the original Sam and Max and Grim Fandango.
- Whittle down my unbeaten Final Fantasy and Sonic the Hedgehog games:
Success! Beat Sonic Adventure DX, Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy V (which I bought to play it, so it probably doesn't count XD). I'm also working through Final Fantasy Tactics at the minute!
- Try out a few classic home computer games on my Amiga and Commodore 64:
Failure! Still no power supply for my Amiga, and no Datasette for my C64, so the systems arent even running fully...
- Beat at least half of the games up for Together Retro this year!:
Success! Beaten so far for the first time: Golden Axe Warrior, Soul Calibur, Ys, Command & Conquer, Mega Bomberman, Maniac Mansion (+ Day of the Tentacle) and Pokémon Puzzle Challenge
- Have 4 or Less unbeaten games per system on my backloggery before my Birthday (Dec. 24th):
Almost a success. I purchased Tactics Ogre a week before my birthday, putting PSP at 5 unbeaten. Every other system had 4 or less.

Collecting Goals
- Buy at least one new game for all of the following systems: NES, SNES, Xbox, PS2, Mega Drive, Dreamcast, Commodore 64, Amiga, Turbografx:
Partial success. Obtained games for NES, SNES, Xbox, PS2, Mega Drive and Dreamcast. No purchases for Commodore, Amiga or Turbografx.
- Buy a whole bunch of cheap DS games while the prices are low (This should be easy ):
Success! Picked up Phoenix Wright 3, Trauma Centre, Kirby: Mouse Attack, Pac-Pix & Hotel Dusk. Enough to qualify this as a success, although less than expected.
- Acquire one or two new consoles from this list: PSP, Mega CD, Wonderswan color, Atari 2600:
Success! I got myself a PSP, then it broke, then I got another one.

So only one outright failure this year, although a few of my goals weren't fully achieved. Not a bad effort, if I do say so myself!

Diversify and participate in as many Together Retros as possible
Continue to play in as many Thurs Night Budget Fights as possible
Complete a RPG (last one was Kingdom Hearts)
Play my handhelds and the libraries I've collected (3DS, PSP, NGPC, GBA)
I didn't perform up to how I would have liked with the Together Retro participation. I think Wolfenstein and Alien Crush were probably the two months I played the most. I *did* diversify with gaming genres a bit, playing a lot of shmups overall.

Thurs Night Budget Fights kind of went by the wayside, still some of my favorite multiplayer experiences in the last couple of years.

Never did complete a RPG - started Game of Thrones (doubles as my worst purchase of the year) but never had the time.

I played a good bit with my 3DS and then picked up a Vita in late August and have really enjoyed that system. Did a bunch of collecting for the PSP and some light playing. Overall, I did make a little shift back into the realm of handheld gaming this year so mission accomplished.
Collecting Goals:

Accurately log everything I own (rfgeneration tool)
Finish off essential Wii and Gamecube games I'm looking for
Be super organized in time for Toomanygames this year
I'm in the process of trying to build an excel spreadsheet to document what I have - never got through the RFGeneration tool to log much

I did a decent job with the Wii and GameCube games - only a handful I still want for both systems. Real happy with those right now.

Well my office/gaming room is in nice shape and made some good buys at Toomanygames. Now I'm prepping for MAGfest and what awaits me there.
