Retro Gaming Stores in Texas

Post by Tullaian »

I hope I'm posting this in the right place.

This weekend and next week I will be in Texas in the Dallas and Austin areas. I'll be in Dallas for the first few days while my wife attends a veterinary conference and I thought what better way to spend the days alone than buying old video games in a different state. I checked the directory and found the following stores. If anyone has any additions in these two cities or could tell me if these stores are still in business I would appreciate it.

GameAttack:
200 MarketPlace Lane Ste 235
Highland Village, TX 75077-3272
(972) 317-4700

Game Over Videogames [Austin]: +2 Rating
911 West Anderson Lane
Austin, TX 78757
(512) 454-4263

Game Over Videogames [Round Rock]:
110 N. I-35, Suite #200-A
Round Rock, TX 78681
512-246-OVER (6837)
Store Hours: Mon-Sat 11am-9pm; Sun 12pm-7pm

Game Over Videogames [San Antonio]:
602 NW Loop 410, Suite #111
San Antonio, TX 78216
210-366-GAME (4263)
Store Hours: Mon-Sat 11am-9pm; Sun 12pm-7pm

Game Over Videogames [Sunset Valley]:
5400 Brodie Lane, Suite #210
Sunset Valley, TX 78745
512-891-OVER (6837)
Store Hours: Mon-Sat 11am-9pm; Sun 12pm-7pm

Also, my wife says I can't do this the whole time so any other must do things in Texas you can suggest would be great. I've already been told there is no Pee Wee Herman bike replica in the basement of the Alamo or even a basement to the Alamo for that matter. :(

I live in San Antonio and hang out in Austin quite a bit. All of those Game Overs are open and I have visited most of them in the last two weeks.

The best Game Overs, in my opinion, are the San Antonio one (huge portable game selection) and the North Austin store (the original with the biggest import collection).

I do not know anything about Game Attack.

While you're in the area, make sure you also check out the arcade in North Austin (down the road from Gameover, actually) Pinballz.

Anything else I can tell you?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Stores are pretty much covered...

When it comes to things to do, there's quite a bit, but it all depends on what you like. Food is plentiful and great in Austin, ranging from Torchy's Tacos (get a Trashy Trailer Park), Guerro's, the Texas Chili Parlor, Top Notch, and I believe there used to be a big Kahuna burger somewhere...

On the entertainment side, just do a quick google check. Music is freaking everywhere. Literally, there is not a night in the year Austin doesn't have live music somewhere. There's always the Alamo Draft House, which is the smoothest movie experience around. Really shouldn't be hard to find something.

While in Austin I would also recommend checking out:

-Gamerz Videogame exchange in Lakeline mall in north Austin. A fair selection of retro stuff and ok prices if you aren't looking for anything Nintendo related.

-Gamefellas at 183 & Lake Creek has an incredible selection of retro. Don't be afraid to ask them for something. They are probably Austin's oldest mom n' pop games shop with plenty of other locations but this one has the best stock. They have some incredibly rare stuff in the back that just isn't safe to put in a glass case.

If I have some free time I would be glad to hang out and go game hunting around town. Sorry I didn't post addresses. I'm on an iPod and it's too difficult to hop back and forth to grab locations. With the info I posted you should be able to find these places easily through google.

Eat at Trudy's In Austin, great food and drinks. I grew up in SA and moved to Houston about 5 years ago, but you can always do the obligatory Riverwalk/downtown tourist trip.

I haven't retro hunted much down there though.

There is a used game store in the New Braunfels area I believe that has decent prices, my brother in law goes every now and again, but I can't recall the name.

That's D-Pad and it's to be avoided. They charge way too much and their products are always in terrible shape.

Do they? Hmm my wife went with my brother and law and picked up dune on Sega CD for 15 in excellent condition. Decent price for a store. I haven't been there myself though.

Does anyone know any other retro game stores in the Dallas area? The CGXs around here closed a whole back too, which sucks.

Never heard of the one in Highland Village, TX... and I live here. Will have to drive and try to find it.

There used to be one in Valley View mall down in Dallas, but no idea on what they have these days.

There's a video store called the Movie Trading Company that has locations around the metroplex. They deal with used video games too - everything from Intellivision and 2600 through PS3/360.
