Any leads to finding a 2-slot MVS case builder?
Any leads to finding a 2-slot MVS case builder?
I've started to ask around various places. Gigantic as the PCB is... So few people have seemingly ever attempted to draw a mockup actual housing, let alone build one, hard to quantify its difficulty in practice.

I presume from the post that you're meaning an enclosed case for a 2 slot MVS board?
Is that for a stand-alone console unit? What are the designs?

2 slot MVS yes.
Ideally it should look something closer to a console, though the board isn't consolized yet. I couldn't find one person able to do both halves of this project. There aren't many design ideas to follow in the first place. As I was saying, very few enclosures made for 2 slot boards...

Re: Any leads to finding a 2-slot MVS case builder?
Very much a case of making a personal casing. As to making the system into a "console", that isn't hard, as long as you want it RGB as the NeoGeo supports RGB natively, so connecting the pins to a SCART socket (if you're in the UK for example) is not hard, and rigging up power supplies is ok too, depending on the board used; however it is a time intensive project as you'd be making a case from scratch, making it look nice, getting the wiring as above done and that's a lot of hours (unless you just want to use a big storage box and have it looking bad). Would make a nice project though if you wanted to have a stab at it.

It isn't realistic. A newbie starting from scratch would need to start with smaller scale projects than this. I don't have experience, workshop, or adequate parts and tools.

Re: Any leads to finding a 2-slot MVS case builder?
There are plenty of guys on neo forums who build custom housings for 1 and 2 (and 4) slots. Post a WTB there and you should have some luck. Wont be terribly cheap if you want it to look nice.
Re: Any leads to finding a 2-slot MVS case builder?
Yeah ideas will help. Maybe something like the acrylic PC cases. Doesn't seem very complicated, at least concept-wise. Doable by cutting then attaching together just six pieces I think. Top/bottom, and 4 sides.
It'd look a LOT like the clear Gameboy.

Re: Any leads to finding a 2-slot MVS case builder?
Having it with a clear case would need something like perspex as a material and would tend to make a box type finished casing as you can't vacuum form the material easily although can bend it with heat gun (although high risk of damaging the plastic in the process).
Yes, modders can do that work for you, however i'd doubt you'd be looking at a price under £200-£400 plus shipping as the process will be time consuming to make, look nice and get finished well, especially in a clear case where the modder has to make sure what they do is neat, tiny and doesn't have glue showing.
I think what makes sense if if you make drawings (even if by hand) and post what you want the system to look like, taking into account the size of the board, and slots (maybe take a photo of the board and make a design from that) and post what you'd like.
Try to use a modder in your own country as postage would be expensive and also there are restrictions on what you can post and also Customs. No idea what country you are in, worth stating that too BTW. If you're UK you should really only use a modder in the UK; or USA for USA, etc.
Post pics of your design and asperations.

I'm USA. Though I certainly agree with the sentiment, I think this would be easier in UK. Things like shorter distance to potential modders and less hassle getting RGB quality video from it.

Hey industrial designer here, I see people talking about industrial designy things
.
Post some rough ideas or inspiration pics so we can get a better idea of what you're thinking, the clear GB is a good start. Rough dimensions would be handy too, I'm not having much luck finding them myself. Like bac said bending clear plastics can be difficult. It's really easy to make stress cracks, and it can really only be vac formed if it's very thin (like clamshell packaging). So that does place certain limits on the design, but it's not something I'd be to worried about at this point.
I wouldn't trust my soldering iron skill with a neogeo board yet, but I'd be totally willing to lend a hand on designing and/or building a housing. Sounds like a fun project for a id guy without enough work so uh, that's my offer.
