Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

underground gamer alternitives (xbox)

Post by nickfil »

don't get me wrong- i love underground gamer. I've downloaded gigs and they are doing a golden torrent weekend, so I am set there and I'll be seeding everything i have for a long time.

However- there is one console i wish they allowed that they don't and that's the xbox. Particularly because it has a rich history of hacking and modding.

So i was curious if anyone knows of any other closed community site like UG that will cater to this need. How is bitgamer for it? Black Cats games?

For Xbox games, the best place *was* Newsgroups, but it's been forever since I tried to download Xbox games/hacks/emus/whatever. You could find nearly everything the day it was released. Now, since the 360 is out I think most people are focused on that but you could try newsgroups, you could also try torrent sites. As a last-ditch effort you could try IRC, but IRC is usually full of a bunch of super-nerds that are complete pricks if you ask a simple question.

yeah- the problem is that it isn't quite retro and it isn't quite new. Xbox falls in that gray area.

I was late to the xbox party, and i guess i'm paying for it a bit.

Honestly, I didn't see many titles for the Xbox only that I was really interested in. What are some of the games you guys recommend?

I use SnesOrama for xbox stuff. Mainly because I don't have any accounts with the invite-only torrent sites. SnesOrama just started adding xbox stuff in their forums about 2-3 months ago, so they don't have every game yet, but its growing pretty fast.

Bitgamer. If you can use the power user section on the UG forums you shouldn't have any problem getting an invite for it.

But this brings up one of my issues with the console. Of that list, I don't care for Halo, and I really didn't like KOTOR that much. And Call of Cthulhu and Far Cry both came out for PC, where I played them and enjoyed them immensely. I'd say that was something that really screwed the console, the amount of releases that ended up on the PC.

Crimson Skies. While it may not be true to its FASA ancestor, it beats the pants off the PC version.
Bloodwake - Twisted Metal in boats.
Hunter the Reckoning - LOOSELY based on the whitewolf rpg of the same name it is a fairly good modern day hack and slash.
Steel Battalion - enough said.

Ironically I just listed most of my xbox collection.

As for the actual topic; snesrama is always a good place to start. If you cant find it there I would start with bittorrent and go from there.
