Sure, but had the last 70-80 years of development and transportation panned out differently, the resulting mass transit available to you might be significantly different, along with the general attitude towards it.MrPopo wrote: Theoretically higher, but it doesn't account for the fact that I don't want to deal with the huddled masses, yearning to breathe free.
I'm not keen on seething masses of humanity either, but some of it you just get used to (at least, from times I have lived places with viable public transportation, not the by-appointment van that goes anywhere near my neighborhood now

I think for me it's the kind of people I see when I take the bus through the downtown. Back when I was in Illinois I took the train into Chicago a few times and found that to be a very positive experience, and I think that was because the line I was on was a series of affluent suburbs.isiolia wrote:Sure, but had the last 70-80 years of development and transportation panned out differently, the resulting mass transit available to you might be significantly different, along with the general attitude towards it.MrPopo wrote: Theoretically higher, but it doesn't account for the fact that I don't want to deal with the huddled masses, yearning to breathe free.

if gas is the same price as diesel , why do people buy diesel cars?MrPopo wrote:I fully support getting rid of public transportation. As for diesel, it fluctates but it tends to hover around the same price as gas, so it's not a big money saving option.

Diesel cars get more miles per gallon, but diesel is more expensive as are diesel vehicles. Last time I filled up gas was $3.51 a gallon while diesel was $3.85.kingmohd84 wrote:if gas is the same price as diesel , why do people buy diesel cars?MrPopo wrote:I fully support getting rid of public transportation. Diesel engines also sound horrible.

Boooooooo. They sound like train engines. Especially if you have a cummings diesel engine.MrPopo wrote:Diesel engines also sound horrible.

Depends on the engine. My mom has had a couple VW TDI vehicles and they're pretty "normal". Nice and torquey to boot. Honestly don't see why we don't have more vehicles like that in the U.S. - not like they don't make 'em as they're fairly prevalent in Europe.MrPopo wrote:Diesel engines also sound horrible.

Engines have a huge amount of difference in the sound. The muffler (or lack thereof), pipe tip, and multiple other things contribute to it. A stock 60-90's Ford sounds really smooth.isiolia wrote:Depends on the engine. My mom has had a couple VW TDI vehicles and they're pretty "normal". Nice and torquey to boot. Isiola- In the U.S., there's so many politics involved in oil that they manage to keep many of the good motors from coming into production here. That, along with our screwed up laws on the environmental crap cars are supposed to have really hurts things. Those environmental regulations make them put so much on the engines that they get poor mileage. Taking that off can net you anywhere from 5-10 miles per gallon more, sometimes more. I know a guy who has a custom ordered engine he tinkered with, now he manages 45 miles a gallon in an old 60's Chevy.
1. It is Cummins.fastbilly1 wrote: Boooooooo. They sound like train engines. Especially if you have a cummings diesel engine.
2. Dodge trucks are crap. The engine is the ONLY good part of the truck, and that itself only applies to diesels. Cars are good though.

My friends say the only thing good left about American cars is the Trucks , and the best of the trucks is the dodge. It lives the longest and give least amount of trouble?Forlorn Drifter wrote:1.
