Thief 2 V1.19 & System Shock 2 V2.4

Post by OldSchool_Boy »

People seem to be freaking out about these new patches. I am too dumb to get it but I figure someone must be interested.

Read this story on another forum last night. I'll have to fire up System Shock later in *drumroll* now 64 bit compatible 1920x1200 res. Woo!

System Shock 2 is incredibly hard to get working correctly on XP, let alone 7 or Vista, especially in coop. When I last tried coop on two identical boxes (both MSI wind 100 Atom330 based nettops) with fresh xp pro sp2 installs, one ran fine while the other had odd rubberbanding issues and crashed randomly. This patch apparently fixs all the issues.

So finally I get to take down Shodan with a buddy. If only Bioshock had coop, Id much rather investigate Rapture coop.

I've got both games working flawlessly on Win7 64bit myself. Tempting to throw these patches down, but it seems very very risky haha. Wouldn't want to mess up my carefully installed games in these two cases... definitely took a lot of work.

I don't even remember how I got SShock2 working on my PC. I think I downloaded a torrent that had the necessary installer and fix stuff working, then snagged the actual disks to soothe my sense of morals. I might check this out when I get home, but I'd definitely want to read the patch notes first.

I actually installed mine from the disc (SS2), then removed that silly line in config or something to make it run without the disc and yeah... did a lot of other stuff I can't remember at all. So yeah, afraid to TOUCH those folders at this point. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I'm curious if it is copy protection that makes SS2 difficult to run like Slave Zero.

Looking at the patch notes, one of the items was that they reencoded the movies to not be in some shitty old format, and I seem to remember having to install some crazy codec from that torrent.

That's pretty cool to hear. When I played Thief earlier this year I had to run a script every single time I started the game up for them to even play.
