What is Resident Evil again?
What is Resident Evil again?
Watching this trailer I have no idea what this franchise is about any more. I'm not lamenting that, it always had a b-movie quality to it, but now it doesn't know its arse from its elbow. What I do lament are those "fans" who bitch and moan and defecate verbal nonsense everywhere as if the games were a Shakespearean work of art being turned into cheap erotic pulps. PSA reminder: Resident Evil was never smart or clever, and it reeks of more cheese than week-long unwashed feet.

Never could get into this series, to be honest. The early games feel slow and clunky. The newer games are just... bad.
RE 4 is pretty cool I guess.

Re: What is Resident Evil again?
That looks more like a movie advert than a game advert. I guess there's no difference between the two, with Resident Evil games becoming like the God-awful movies.
Indeed Resident Evil games were never art nor had good writing like the Silent Hill series, but it was still nonetheless a horror franchise, not an Hollywood action movie with shitty drama elements franchise. Any one who claims that the original 3 didn't have B-movie plotlines and "blowing shit up"-type of action (especially 2 and 3, not so much the first untill the laboratory level and finale) is delusional. Any one who doesn't see the difference between the legit horror athmosphere of the originals (being alone most of the time, running down empty corridors, dodging zombies on narrow hallways with shitty tank controls, the camera angles, the shadow&lightning effects, the sounds, the soundtrack and the ambiance, reading text about what happened to all the people who are now dead) and the straight up action movie style of the movies and modern games (all the wanna be Matrix stuff in the movies, all the BS drama and arguing "WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LEGENDARY CHRIS REDFIELD", survivors fighting as a group isn't scary, humans fighting against each other/shooting each other espescially isn't scary!) is blind.

Re: What is Resident Evil again?
I've never understood how people could find the older games scary (Nemesis is extremely tense though) or terrifying. Hell, I don't even understand how they thought the games had great plots and not only that but they bitch about the movies having terrible plots (Something the games already have).
It's a series that people misunderstood and now it apparently haves huge standards.

I still maintain that RE4 is much more of a horror game and much more in line with the spirit of the classic series than most people ever give it credit for, especially in light of the most recent titles.

RE6 does have horror in the Leon campaign (Based on the demo) and the ammo is extremely limited as well.AppleQueso wrote:I still maintain that RE4 is much more of a horror game and much more in line with the spirit of the classic series than most people ever give it credit for, especially in light of the most recent titles.

I'd like to add that short of remakes and re-imaginings the series should have ended at Code Veronica. MGS has adapted to the 21st century, but RE is a fumbling mess. But hey, Lady Kaka exists so why shouldn't RE?

I really enjoy the desperate feeling I'm getting from the series as they continue to invent new ways to have zombies exist, to re-introduce characters, to keep Umbrella involved. It reminds me of long-running cinema franchises.

I never understood the hatred against RE4, it's a 10/10 game. It has a real horror soundtrack just like the original 3 games. No one can argue that the first third of the game isn't done well. Sure the castle and the island don't look as decayed and dark as the village so they aren't as scary, but they do have some good moments (playing as unarmed Ashley, pushing the heavy trash cans with Ashley while the Iron Maidens are chasing you in the garbage pit, the regenerators in the freezer, the invisible enemies in the sewer and the boss which you have to freeze with nitrous oxidie).AppleQueso wrote:I still maintain that RE4 is much more of a horror game and much more in line with the spirit of the classic series than most people ever give it credit for, especially in light of the most recent titles.
